One-day trip to Speyer!
Is it your first time in Germany and you’re willing to travel without paying too much? Come to Speyer, a lovely town on the Rhine!
Speyer is 25 km south of Ludwigshafen and Mannheim and if you’re studying at the Ruprecht-Karls Universitaet of Heidelberg, it is easily reachable by train using the Semesterticket.
Founded by the Romans , Speyer is one of Germany's oldest cities. Famous is its wide cathedral, which beneath the high altar, contains the tombs of eight Holy Roman emperors and German kings. In 1981, the cathedral was even added to the UNESCO World Heritage List of culturally important sites as "a major monument of Romanesque art in the German Empire".
If you are lucky enough to visit the town in a sunny day, unmissable are the parks surrounding the area. Forget about the rest and enjoy the moment!
PS: All these photos have been taken by me in October 2017.
Sunny days are rare, but possible.
Even in Germany.
