Experience in University College Dublin, Ireland

Generally, what is University College Dublin like?

The University College Dublin is a big campus with a lot of facilities. There are so many societies that you can join and they are not only focused on your studies but especially on how you feel and what you like to do.

What are the facilities like?

The facilities are very good. There are a lot of study spots and there is almost always enough space to study. However, you need to bring your own laptop, because there are not a lot of study spots with computers. Besides of that, there are a lot of people who can help you studying. For example, there is a writing centre to help you with writing your essays.

What are the tutors like?

At the beginning, we had some buddy groups, so that you felt not alone at the beginning of your semester. Besides of that I also had a specific person who I could contact for all the things that had to do with Erasmus and my study abroad at UCD. It gave you a good feeling to know that you could always ask for help when things would not work out the way you want. In almost every building there is a paper with all kind of people you can contact with all kind of problems (ICT, study progress, Career development etc. )

Are the lessons easy in University College Dublin?

I would not say that the lessons in University College Dublin are easy. Sometimes the lessons are very long and there is not a lot of interaction. However, the professors almost always give you the opportunity to ask questions during the lectures. Besides of that, they are always willing to help you when you have difficulties. I think that they really try to bring the reality in class, what makes the lessons far more interesting.

Does the University organise activities? If so, what are they like?

The University organized a lot of activities. You have two times a year freshers week and during the year the societies organize so many events that it is not even possible to attend every activity. It is very nice that there are so many societies that you can join and see where your interests are.

Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?

I would say that the quality of teaching is good. They are really willing to help you when you don't understand something and the teachers are almost always well prepared for the lectures that they give. Like I said before, they bring the reality in class, what makes the lessons far more interesting.
