The world needs to learn from Turkey

The world needs to learn from Turkey

1. Turkish people don't steal, don't cheat

I have thanked God in many occasions for being among these amazing people. You can find anything you loose . There could be some exceptions  , but I never saw one. You can always trust Turkish people.
There are not many crimes in this country, almost no robbery. It is simply great to see that a girl can study till mid night in school library and go home miles away , with no worries  about sexual attack. I believe the rest of the world is miles behind.
When I was writing this, I found my notebook which I lost some 5 days earlier .

Here is  the other example. Some times, bus drivers in Turkey leave their  buses open  expecting the  incoming passengers to press the electronic pass. How many of you  would  just walk in?  We all like avoinding  paying for public transport  by all means . There are times when the bus is   full , and there fore people  have to enter from the back door. Not a single one , I have seen, trying to cheat. How beautiful!

2. Turkish people are not racist. Some people could tell you they are, I won't agree. A young boy, out of pure wonder, could ask you if there is water in your country, he may say 'do you live in trees?', he may question whether you eat back home, possibly everything . But that isn't racism , that is ignorance. Tell him what your home looks like, tell him that there is food else where also. Tell him that you support the same  Turkish team as he does.
One time , I had to contact somebody looking for internship. We called eachother and  he , together with his friend came to where I was  with  my friend. We  did  not eachother before, and therefore I was afriad  to go inside. The  guy , however understood my fear. And he said, 'We are  Turks, how are you afraid of us?' . I bet he was right.

Generally , Turks are hospitable and friendly, they will make you will feel at home . As far as you avoid problems ,they will love you.

3. Secular and  religious.
Turkey is a secular country, probably the first among the Muslim world. This could have meant losing religious values, it could have meant deep  westernization, but it did not . Turkish people are devoted Muslims. It looks like they put the right  balance . You don't see religious stupidity here. They would like you to be a Muslim, but they would not force you. You can ask a Turkish guy to your church, he won't be offended. They have kind of 'beautiful Islam'.  I don't know if Islam it beautiful itself , but here in Turkey it looks so. I  just two days earlier to posting this blog, I received a present from  a muslim Turkish girl. It was not one of  the famous Turkish Tulips,  it was not Middle Eastern beads either. It was a necklace with a cross on it. I could not believe my eyes when she put it on my neck before every one in library.

What love  that is
far beyond differences
that touched my heart
so dry were my eyes
even in hardest of days
but could not hold no more
flooded like the storms
the tears of my glands.

How beautiful love is
that stretches over fear
that binds souls

kisses to the cross
kisses in the air to you
kisses to the Love Himself
Who taught us to love.

Later during the weekend other two muslim girls went to a local Church with me. We  discussed the Bible and  The Koran for not less than 2 hours.

You may  wonder what it is like to be in mosques. It is  cool. The  super clean carpets , moist air, beautiful domes the prayer sound , people bowing and raising together. It is  beautiful.

But  the fact  they respect my difference is  more beautiful.

4. Patriotism

As an Ethiopian , I have heard  a lot about patriotism. I remember there is always one chapter in  Civic and Ethical Education in all grade levels. It is everything for a country  who was  never out of skirmish.

And here I see the other level of it.Turks are patriots . They are proud of their history. Actually they are taught to be so. They have common values as a nation. And they  national heroes and fathers. They believe in unity, they would always die for it. I have witnessed this during that failed  coup attempt in July,2016. That willingness to lie under armed tanks , that bravery to stand against one of the best fighting forces with bare hands is pure heroism .That could tell why  in one of the most unstable regions they have such strong nation.

5. Foods

This is probably what you will always hear about Turkey. Turkish kebab is getting  more famous than Italian Pitza.

One day ,when am back  home, I will miss manythings, especially the foods. I believe the multi ethnic nature of this  country has made it all possible to have one of the best gastronomy. Try Turkish cuisine , Adana Kebab, Iskander, and everything else.

I have not said anything about the rich natural beauty  and the magnificient past of this nation . Perhaps because I am a fun of smaller beauties with more values. For you of different opinion , it certainly is worth  searching .

But here I will answer some  common questions to help you decide.

1.How is their education?

There are many great universities. Unlike in many other Europian  places, here ou will study together with the regular students. Because usually they teach in English.

I remember , during my Erasmus in Poland, they had to prepare separate class for eramsus students.I was  sometimes the only student in the classroom .

2.Residence permit

In the first three weeks you can finish all the process . This process is even easier in smaller cities. And like everywhere else, your mentors will help you throughout .Health insurance is also cheap and easy to find.

3.Life expense

Turkey is very cheap except when it comes to alcoholic drinks and electronics. But basic  things like food , house renting, clothes , transportation are all in your favour.

4. Entertainment

There are clubs everywhere. You may join cultural events ,festivals  and etc.

5. International people

I know  you will need this.I can promise you every nationality where ever you go.

6. Language

You will need to learn a few basic words for  common people. Students usually speak English . But  this is not  an issue to worry about. You will get help when ever you need.

7. And there are no crimes. You are always safe.

I know many things Turkey has to improve . There are  things  you would  be surpired not to find here.  But for somebody like me, this is the right home. If you are already here, hoşgeldin!
