What is it like to live in Turin? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Turin has the advantage of being a city without the hustle of being very big: almost everything you need is easily reachable and the old town is beautifully maintained. I would not recommend to look for accommodation in the suburbs (Parella, Vanchiglietta, Santa Rita, etc. ), though: there’s a reason why they are much cheaper.

What is the student lifestyle like in Turin?

There are two Universities you could attend in Turin, based on the course you’re interested in studying: the Politecnico di Torino, which is more organised and offers scientific BAs and MAs, or the Università degli Studi di Torino, which has a greater range of courses but is much less orderly and notorious. For the rest, managing a social life is fairly easy and there are many opportunities for entertainment.

How much does it cost to live in Turin?

If you budget well, you can manage to live with 500-700 € a month (also considering the rent).

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Turin? Is there any advice you can give?

As I said before, I wouldn’t recommend living in the suburbs. There are some opportunities to find accommodation in dorms or campuses, but they are few and generally difficult to access.

Personally, I would look on Facebook or on other social media to find opportunities to share an apartment with other students, or try to look for opportunities in your Faculty of choice.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is generally very good, as long as you don’t expect an enormous diversity, you’re good to go.

What places would you recommend visiting in Turin?

It depends on what your interests are: if you’re interested in culture, there are plenty of art and history museums you can visit. For the shopping addicts, Via Roma and Via Garibaldi in the centre could be interesting. Another good spot is the Parco del Valentino, or the green areas near the Po River.

Is it good to eat out in Turin? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

I tend to not eat out very much, but if I absolutely need to I stick with Eataly, Macbun or something like a pizzeria.

Is the nightlife good in Turin? Where is good to go?

The nightlife is very varied and different faculties tend to go to different clubs or bars, so it depends on your situation. In general, the Cacao, the Life Club or the Chalet are well known. On the fancier side of things, you could try the Hennessy Restaurant & Music or the Lapsus.

What advice would you give future students heading to Turin?

Be weary of GTT: they are always on a strike these days! Try to move by bike or by car, maybe ask a friend to go together, because public transportation isn’t very reliable... Just look for Turin Low Quality Memes on Facebook, you have been warned!
