What is it like to live in Turin? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Moving from London to Torino has been a great experience for me. You need to adjust to shops not always being open when you expect them to be.

But it's Italy - the people are friendly, the food is delicious, the prices are better and in winter it's not nearly as cold!

What is the student lifestyle like in Turin?

From what I know fairly relaxed. Studying isn't exactly the number one priority of students here it's probably safe to say.

Much more emphasis is placed upon getting through 'education' as you need to and meanwhile focussing upon the socialising aspect of student life. But this is no different to England in my experience.

Bureaucracy is something that gets in the way of the practical elements of education at times also.

How much does it cost to live in Turin?

Rents are way cheaper than London. To be expected. 7 million people Vs 1 million. I pay 500 euros all in for a 2 bedroom apartment downtown with all bills included. Impossible in London.

GOOD food is cheaper and high quality in the restaurants and in supermarkets. Cheap local produce is like Waitrose back in England.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Turin? Is there any advice you can give?

Air B'n'B worked for us - approaching people on that platform to look for short term rent. A search on Google brings up a bunch of places to try.

I would recommend contacting landlords and organising house viewings before you leave your home country (even if you don't particularly like some houses).

Chances are if they can't help you they'll find someone who can. Let the landlords do the work for you.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food is as amazing as expected. Not as much variety in truth but if you're after generally excellent pizza and pasta then of course - you are in the right place.

My favourite is Calzone from Coco Pazzo Torino which would come up easily in a Google Search.

What places would you recommend visiting in Turin?

Beyond seeing the 'mole' and the various other sites Torino has to offer - run along the River Po. It's really quite beautiful in the sunshine.

Otherwise the Royal Palace, The Shroud of Turin, Juventus football stadium - all places well worth seeing!

Is it good to eat out in Turin? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

  • Calzone from Coco Pazzo;
  • All you can Eat Sashimi;
  • The Roast Chicken and Chips at the Paneterria on Via Vanchiglia opposite Mama Emporio!

Is the nightlife good in Turin? Where is good to go?

Piazza Vittorio Veneto - this is where I've been to party the few times I've been out in Turin. You'll see tons of reviews on this area online.

Caffè del Progresso, Corso San Maurizio, 69 - this is where my evening would start (and sometimes finish however).

What advice would you give future students heading to Turin?

Well. You're not coming for the excellent academic rigour I imagine - although they have a very strong Science and Engineering faculty here I'm told.

Come, get your work done - and enjoy it is what I would say :)
