Târgu Mureș

Târgu Mureș- Romania

Târgu Mureș is a small county situated in the centre of Romania. It is not the town where I was born, but it is the most beautiful town from our country. What I love about it, is that you never get bored in that city: we have the Zoo, an aquatic park, a citadel, 3 famous museums, a lot of pubs and it is full of students.

Our town is known in all Europe for its important hospital for heart disease and the medicine faculty. What is even more interesting is that we share schools, churches, locals, festivals and almost everything with the Hungarian people and this makes our life style more diverse and interesting than in other parts of the country.

Where can you eat?

Well, everybody knows that Country Pub is the best place to eat pizza, the traditional polenta, grilled minced meat rolls or some exquisite deserts like pancake with jam or cheese dumplings. The atmosphere is perfect: local bands are performing there every night so you cannot get bored, morover you will want to go back there again so you can enjoy a different music every time.

Where can you have a great time with your friends?

Every night out must begin with a good wine or beer and of course something tasty to eat. Right in the centre of the town, there is a place called Dona where all the students get together, planning the night, having some fun, maybe taking some pictures and meeting new people. If you go there you must try the stuffed peppers and you will simply adore them.

After that you must dance in the best club in town named Gallery Social Club situated next to the river Mureș, in the west part of the city. Good music, drinks, famous singers and beautiful girls… all in one place.

Where can you sleep?

If you are looking to stay in town for a couple of days, maybe you want a nice and cheap hotel so I think Hotel Mureș would be a perfect choice. It is close to the city, near the river and it is very traditional also.

Other nice stuff

Do you like junk food? Don’t worry! We have McDonalds, KFC, Salad Box and shawarma. Do you like shopping? We have 2 big Malls, Promenada and Mures Mall but also many local shops with very interesting products. Do you like history? Well, we also have a citadel, museums (e. g. Ethnographic Museum), The Palace of Culture, the National College Unirea or the Sighișoara citadel.

A visit to the Art Gallery

Published by flag-ro Madalina Creta — 4 years ago

Love for Art and my college years

Since I know myself I have been so much into art, especially painting. I am not by any means talented at painting or drawing but I have been more an admirer and an art critic from the shadow. I enjoyed many trips to art galleries around my country Romania or in the countries I used to live or visit. Actually the very first thing I did while I was in a new country was checking all the art museums and galleries in the city. I admire the technique, the colors and the materials used in painting. During my high school years I went to Art School in Targu Mures but at the music section in which I have been studying piano for several years. For the time being a student there I attended classes of art history and the art theory. Even if music was my specialty I loved learning about paintings and famous painters.

At university in my senior year I had a course about Art history as well with a topic based only on painters and their work. My professor was surprised how every class I had knowledge about some painters and stuff like that. In my free time I remember I loved to go to library and pick up painting books and read them with so much interest as possible. I have books based on particularly centuries and styles of painting, from the expressionism to impressionism and post modernism. I attended every single class of art history and also had a major presentation for my fellow colleagues. But in particularly I was obsessed and attracted to this one particular painter.

Surrealism and Salvador Dali

Surrealism is a movement started around 1920's and best way to describe it is to reach down into your imagination and start creating art from it. The best representative is this movement and painting style is by far my ultimate painter, Salvador Dali, he is a true icon for the world of arts. An artist in every way possible, a sculptor, writer and a photographer. But most of all an eccentric character with love for not normal things. Maybe this is way his personality and his way of painting attracted me to his work. For those who want to learn more about him on a personal note I recommend an autobiography movie in which is shown during his college years among his best friend and partner Federico Garcia Lorca. The movie is called '' Little Ashes'' and Robert Pattison starts as Dali.

In my hometown of Targu Mures there are a few museums and one or two art galleries, one and the most important is located inside the Cultural Palace of Targu Mures. It holds important art pieces from Romania's finest artists, among this is the famous ''Car cu boi '' ( oxcart, english translation ) of Nicolae Grigorescu. Just a few words about Grigorescu, he is the most important Romanian artist, he studied in Paris at the School of Arts and had his colleague Renoir himself. His style of painting made a huge difference in impressionism and nowadays most of his painting are held in Paris's galleries ''Țiganca de la Ghergani'' ( Young gipsy girl painting ) and my city is happy ad fortunate to held the one most famous painting.

At the art gallery I mentioned above all the time are events where famous exhibitions are brought from abroad and also exhibitions of young promising Romanian artists. Near this gallery there is another place where they hold painting of local artists from Targu Mures. One of this artist is Vasile Muresan, he is a painter and a sculptor with exhibits in Paris and major European cities. I was fortunate enough to take part at one of his exhibitions here in Targu Mures.

His exhibition is called ''Urme'' ( traces in English ) and it was showed case during 2 weeks at the local Art gallery downtown Targu Mures. Entree was free and I took the opportunity to pay a visit. The painting were unbelievable and made my heart filled with joy and peace of mind, and to top all of that I had the chance to met in person Vasile Muresan the painter and have an 2 hour conversation in his private office. He seemed such a down to earth person which I appreciate so much.

Traces the name of the exhibit, as you may see from the pictures as well, many shapes and colors makes this painting so rich and intense.

The picture above is from the other art gallery which I told you is held in the main Palace, I decided in that day to go again and visit the main gallery, even though I knew every painting in part and placement. There is feeling that paintings gave me, feeling of comfort and peace of mind.

Among the painting in the pictures were Romanian and Hungarian artists showed case in that day.

What a great day that was, filled with art and movement. Vasile Muresan is an amazing artist and painter, his work is so undervalued that it makes me sad indeed. But so was Dali's art for such a long time, maybe after their passing art is taking into consideration which is a sad thing.

But for those who share with me the love for art they understand my words and maybe for them this post will mean a bit more than for others. Art is a great thing in every shape or form, I am breathing art in every single day from the clothes I wear to the how I am portraying myself in society .
