Some supermarket sales that you should know about. Ioli Supermarket
The introduction
Hello, everyone, again! This is another article about life in Tbilisi and stuff like that. Well, now I want to tell you about these different supermarkets and the big sales they have now or, at least, I heard of them just recently. To tell you the truth, I didn’t believe it at first, when I heard about those sales that they had during the evening hours. We were at the seaside in Batumi Boulevard and my friend said that those certain supermarkets had these sales from 7-12 p. m. on their products. Those products, which were made by themselves, are mainly salads and sandwiches and stuff like that, you know. So that I’ve wanted to see whether it was true or not since then and some time later I happened to visit one of those supermarkets during those hours and they really had those sales and it was really good.
So, there are some of those supermarkets which offer you those sales and they are Ioli supermarket, Foodmart supermarket and SPAR supermarket as far as I know, and there’s this Ori Nabiji supermarket too that my friend is telling me about. However, I don’t really know much about them because the one that is located nearby our apartment doesn’t have any sales during evening hours or at least the working people told us that they didn’t have any sales after 7 p. m. or something like that.
Ioli supermarket
Well, Ioli supermarket was something that I didn’t really like, if you want to know the truth. Nevertheless, I really don’t know the reason for not liking it. I guess it was because the prices were not cheap or things like that, I don’t really remember. Though, I remember the feeling, which I got some time earlier when I first got into that supermarket. It’s not that bad, and, well, maybe they don’t have much products to offer, they are pretty cozy supermarket chain and they have many branches in Tbilisi and everything just go fine with them, I guess.
You will find one of Ioli supermarkets on Delisi. It’s just above the metro station and you will spot it immediately after coming out of that Delisi metro station. However, it’s important on which side of the street you are coming out of the metro station because if you are coming out of the one, which is near the bus station, then you should cross the street to get to Ioli supermarket. And you can’t cross the street there because there’s no zebra there, so that you must go back to that underground thing and cross the street that way.
There’s this thing of Ioli supermarket, which is pretty noticeable, and it’s thought of that way, of course. The sign of this supermarket is written in white and the background is green, so that wherever I see something written on a green background I think of Ioli supermarket, mostly it’s this Ioli supermarket. However, there are other things like that one, for example, PSP pharmacy has this green background too, etc.
So, if you get to Ioli supermarket during 8-12 p. m. you can get their food in half of their prices. They have this 50% discount on their prepared products during these hours and it’s a really good idea, if you ask me. Many people are going home after 7 or 8 p. m. and they want to buy something for home, of course, or for themselves to eat until they get home or whatever, and they can get those things for half of their prices. Can you imagine that? I mean, when you had to pay for some salad or other product 5 laris, in that case, you just must pay 2,50 laris in it. Well, another one of them is on Vazha-Pshavela Avenue, somewhere nearby Medical University metro station. It’s just on the right side of the street, until you get to the crossing after which you will see the Republic Hospital. It’s a good one, if you ask me.
Another one you can find on Tsereteli Avenue on the second crossing from the Tsereteli metro station. It’s a Tsereteli 74, if I remember correctly and they have pretty good salads and sandwiches and other stuff there, if you want to know the truth. And the people working there are nice and friendly.
Well, I was there the other day on Tsereteli Avenue Ioli supermarket. They had all these things, there that I wanted to buy. However, you can’t really buy everything you want at that time because you won’t want to eat them all when you eat some of them and, besides, it is not that wise to buy all those stuff together, while you can go outside and buy whatever you want after some time, you know. My sister always says that there’s no place for a hungry man in the supermarket and that’s really true, because when you are hungry and you go into the supermarket or even a diner or something like that, you just want to buy everything and you just want to eat everything, of course. You walk in there, look at all those foods that you like and there’s this feeling of wanting everything there.
Nevertheless, it’s just stupid because even if you buy all those things that you want to eat right at that moment, you go home or whatever, outside the supermarket and eat some of those stuff that you have bought. Then you are satisfied with that food, since you’ve eaten and your brain has gotten the signal of getting food, it’s giving you a signal that you are no longer hungry and then you just don’t want to eat other things because of that.
So, that was the feeling that I got when I entered this Ioli Supermarket because I was kind of hungry at that moment and, besides, they had some good-looking stuff there. However, there were these salads and they were kind of not much, I mean, they were already almost gone. And, well, that’s how it should be, of course, because when they prepare those salads, there’s this consideration of the amount and it shouldn’t be left at the end of the day and they check the statistics of selling those salads and the amounts sold and things like that and that’s how they know, how much they should prepare for a day. Of course, this is not that exact thing, I mean, they can’t really predict what can happen in a day. Well, there can be customers who want to buy the whole saucepan of one dish and then the dish is gone, of course. And there can be times when no one buys some dish and there are leftovers then. This is not something precise and no one can predict that.
Anyways, when I walked into this Ioli supermarket and looked around, they had this potato puree which is pretty cheap, and many people just love eating it throughout the day. Well, first of all, because it’s cheap and, secondly, because it goes well on almost everything, I guess, and, besides, it’s really easy to eat and digest and it’s kind of moist and not dry and it gives you a feeling of not being hungry anymore. Usually it costs not even 1 lari a hundred gram, so imagine buying it for something like 50 tetris! Hundred grams of potato puree is really more than enough for me.
The next thing that they had was this eggplant with vegetables. My mother loves this dish and I was happy to see this dish there because I knew she would be happy if I bought that one for her. It includes nicely chopped eggplants and bell peppers and herbs with some spices all fried on a frying pan and it’s really delicious. However, I’m not really a fan of it, I mean, I prefer eating some other things like chicken salads or something like that. Well, I took it with a medium plastic container and, while usually it would cost something like 5 laris, now I would pay the half of its price.
There’s this thing in Tbilisi supermarkets nowadays this salad of chicken has become very popular and every supermarket has it in their products, I guess. So, it’s basically chicken fillets and cucumbers with mayonnaise or chicken fillets and carrots. These are very popular salads these days and many people buy them. My brother just loves them and preparing them is not really that hard. Of course, these things are just great to have, especially when you are really hungry.
Well, they are not that full of calories and they are pretty delicious, so that you can enjoy those things, like salads and stuff, besides, there is this chicken livers, which I like very much. They also have those ones almost everywhere, I guess. And it doesn’t cost much either. Those livers contain many useful vitamins and stuff like that, and they are good for health. However, some say that they are not that good as the liver is a detoxifying organ.
