Prom preparation. Day 1
The introduction
So, my sister just came back from her studies in Germany and, well, she was supposed to be a graduate here in Georgia, but since she left for Germany and studies there, she doesn’t study here anymore. But her study year in Germany was over, she had her exams and stuff and went back home, because her Georgian classmates graduated and they were going to have prom and, of course, she wanted to have prom, too, with them. So they had many things to decide about the prom and stuff like that, you know how it goes.
From the very beginning, they said they wanted their prom to be in July, you know, after their exams and when everything was finished and they had all the free time they wanted and, at the same time, one of their classmates would be in Georgia too and he also could attend their prom and well, it would be great. But then, they realized that July was pretty far from now and maybe they wouldn’t have time or something to have a prom and they just decided to have their prom as everyone or most of the classes had their proms: somewhere in the middle or at the end of June. At first, it was said, that they would have prom on the 16th of June, and then they decided it to be on the 20th of June in Tbilisi in a restaurant. Well, it kind of was a decision many people didn’t anticipate, so that now they had to move quickly and decide which dress or suit they would wear and it was time for shopping and shopping, of course. You know, girls especially needed some days for shopping for dresses and heels and stuff like that.
Buying a white shirt
Well, at first, my sister had decided that she would dress up in red long dress and she was looking for a red dress everywhere. The first day we decided to go to the Station square as there is this market place called Pasaji and there are many shops with clothes and shoes and all the other stuff like that. Also, my sister wanted to have a white shirt on which she could paint or print something and then have it signed by her classmates the way they sign their shirts on the last day of school.
So, the very first thing we did was to go there and find a perfect white shirt, on which she could have some things written and painted and everything and I don’t think it was a very easy job, but still, it was kind of easy one on that day, because soon we found this shirt and she liked it and we bought it.
Then we had some stops at other shops, where there were different kinds of jeans and, well, I knew she wanted new jeans, so we just walked there and looked for some of those jeans, but there weren't the type of the jeans that she would like to wear. I mean, she didn’t really know which jeans she wanted to wear, because some of them were pretty beautiful, but they weren’t her style and when she tried them on it was pretty obvious then. So, we just continued searching. And, also, I wanted a denim jacket for me, but then when I saw some of them, I realized that those jackets weren’t what I wanted, so I couldn’t buy any of them. However, then we saw some jeans store and went there, because they had many jeans and my sister took some of them to the fitting room and tried them on. And I must say, that it was pretty hot outside and inside, too, I mean, it’s even hotter when you try some things on and off and she was really hot, I guess, but what could she do. She tried some of them and then we decided that one of them was really good on her, and while she didn’t agree with me the first time, then she realized, that it was the pretty one and so we bought those jeans too.
Trying on dresses
Then it was time for the dresses. We really hoped that there would be some pretty cool dresses in Pasaji, as they have so many things and I know that many people go there and find some pretty good stuff, so why wouldn’t they have to have beautiful dresses?! And, well, we started looking for some long prom dresses, preferably red, but other colours too.
I must say that they had some red dresses, I mean, long red dresses. And my sister tried one on. Well, she is really skinny and that long red dress was really good on her, though it was not her size, it was a little bigger and they didn’t have red dress her size. Not that we were already buying the dress, but still... they had that dress in other colours, too, like black and light pink and something like orange-red. We saw it in another shop, where the assistant was in a bad mood, I guess, and when we asked whether she had a dress with that colour of my sister’s size, she just replied “no” in a way that no one would ask her another question again.
Well, then we moved on to the next shops, and I must say, there were not so many dresses as I had expected. They even said that the proms were already finished and that’s why there were not so many dresses in the shops. Well, that was unexpected, because I remember my prom was in the beginning of July, so I don’t know why the proms had to be finished as early as in May or not continue till the end of June, at least.
There were some dresses which were not long, but short too. And they were more than those long ones. And, of course, there were dresses which were more informal ones, not very much for prom, but for some more informal occasions, such as meetings and book festivals or something like that, and then there were those types of dresses, which were supposed to be for weddings and they were more of a fairy types and stuff like that, you know. There were other people wandering around, looking for prom dresses, some were with just their sisters or whatsoever, and some were with all of the family, I guess, I mean, maybe their mothers, grandmothers, aunts and all the other family members. That’s just ridiculous, I guess. Because as there are so many people, there are so many ideas and opinions, and you just can’t decide anything with so many people around you and then you just have to go shopping alone another day and decide yourself what you want to wear and what you want to buy and stuff like that, you know. And while you have so many people around you, it’s just really difficult to decide even yourself anything about the dress or whatever it is that you want to buy, and then there are all these people, each of them telling you what to do and what they like and what they didn’t like and all the other stuff, and then they look for another dresses and they want to show them to you and then it’s just all in chaos and everything’s so messy, that you just don’t understand what to do and who to look at and whom to answer and it’s just crazy there. Well, you may think, that these situations occur rarely or not very often, but you’re wrong, my friends, and, I don’t know about other countries and stuff, but trust me when I tell you, that these situations are just what it’s like here in Georgia. I’ve seen it, I’ve been a little in there and I know what I’m telling you. That’s just the way it is. And in many cases, the girl buys some things, like dress and shoes and stuff like that, not what she wants, but what others told her they liked and what others repeatedly told her, you know, so she just got tired and didn’t want anything to buy and she just bought some things, so that everyone would stop talkingand leave her alone. So, that’s how it is, if you want to know the truth.
Looking for heels
After seeing some dresses and kind of deciding about the idea of her prom dress, we decided to see some heels, too, and well, see whether she could walk easily in every heel or not and if she needed some usual stuff or platforms or whatever. And she had to decide about the colour, too and the type and all the other stuff, of course.
At first, we came into this shop, where there were many heels, we walked around, looking at them and thinking which one we liked or not. Then we saw this assistant guy, who just came out, smoking cigarette and asking all those questions and this asking process with all the smoking and stuff was so annoying, that I barely stood there. He was so certain in what he told us about heels, you would get a feeling, that all his life he wore heels and there was nothing that he didn’t know about them and about walking in them and all the other stuff. It was really annoying. I hate those type of sellers. And they just don’t stop talking, even if you don’t listen to them and want to get out of that shop soon, but they keep talking and talking and this guy was doing the same and, what’s more, he was smoking his cigarette like he had not smoked a cigarette for a week or something.
Then we went to another shop, where my sister liked this one or two heels and while there was no point in just looking at it, I told her to try them on and see how she felt in them while walking. So she tried them on. She said they were nice and she was walking normally. And I must say, that she had not had worn any heels before, I mean, of course she had tried some of my mom’s and mine, but she hadn’t worn them on some occasions or something like that. And she just had those heels on and walked around and didn’t want to take them off, I guess, but we weren’t going to buy any heels, until we had decided about the dress, so, of course, she had to take them off.
It was already afternoon and we felt kind of tired, so we decided that it was enough for the first day getting ready for the prom and we could go home now. And, of course, we could visit some other shops on our way home, as there were some of them, too, where we could see some stuff.
But until that, I wanted to visit my friend, whose birthday was coming up the next day and I had already bought a present for her and I knew that she wouldn’t be at home the next day and so that I wanted to give my present until then. Turned out, that she was at home and I could pay her a short visit, as I wanted to go home soon, too. Well, me and my sister went to her. She was really excited about my gift and I was, too, as I had bought it some time ago and I was really looking forward to giving it to her. Then suddenly, our another friend came to her place with that small tart with candles lit and singing “happy birthday” and it was all nice and stuff. It was pretty cool. That was such a coincidence. She was all happy and stuff and we were, too. We talked about things and other stuff and, well, it was then time to leave, as my friend was going to leave, too, and so did we.
On our way home, we felt kind of hungry and my sister had this idea of eating McDonald’s ice-cream. I don’t get what they like in that ice-cream. I don’t really like it. Well, maybe one of the reasons is that I don’t really like vanilla ice-cream, I mean, the one that is white. I’d rather have chocolate ice-cream or something other. But, of course, chocolate is my favourite in everything, I guess. And while I was on the ice-cream side, I suggested her going in Luca Polare. They have very delicious ice-cream, all in different ranges and there’s not great, but some of the variety of ice-cream that is pretty tasty. And while at first she kind of agreed on that, then she still wanted McDonald’s ice-cream, and well, what could I do, I agreed on eating McDonald’s after seeing which ice-creams Luca Polare had. At least, I could buy ice-cream for me there and then we could take it to McDonald’s, but then we both decided, that it was better if we just went home and eat there. What’s more, we had some chocolate and vanilla ice-creams at home, too.
On our way home, we just had this stop at this shop, where I usually buy my jeans. And I wanted to buy some jeans, that was supposed to be worn in summer. So I tried some jeans on. And while I thought I was going to buy one of them which I liked, my sister didn’t like it and wouldn’t let me buy it. And then there came all those other jeans and I tried them on and on and finally, there was a jeans, which was kind of what I wanted, but it was pretty skinny, but my sister said it was good and that she liked it, and well, it looked good on me, I guess, so we bought it at last.
Then we went back home, where we had those things that we bought tried on again and stuff like that, and, I guess, we were pleased with our shopping.
