Prom day!
The introduction
The prom was going to be on the 20th of June and it was Monday, so it was kind if surprising for me, but I guess that was the time when the restaurant was free and didn't have any other guests yet, so that they reserved it. Well, actually, it was my sister's classmate's mother who had it all organised at the end. To be honest, there were many options of where to hold the prom night and they had all these restaurant choices, but them they chose this last one. Well, I can't tell you that the choice was great or anything, I mean, I don't really know whether or not other places were better and stuff like that, I haven't been to any of them, I'm not really a restaurant person and things like that, you know. But I guess this wasn't a bad choice after all.
There were some other things that they needed to plan too. And they had already planned some things, but they changed everything all the day and even on their way to the restaurant, so they didn't really know what they were going to do exactly.
So my sister had to do some things too, of course, until they got together, I mean, she had an appointment to the hairdresser and stuff like that and then she had to dress up and all the other things, you know. And so did my mother. And, well, I had these lectures at the clinic and I couldn't be able to see them, I thought. Actually, it all depended on the lecturers and when everything would be finished and stuff like that, but still I thought that it all would finish late and then I had this German lesson and, well, I had a really busy morning and afternoon and it would be bad if I couldn't see my sister and mother until they went to the prom.
There's another thing: the day was very sunny and it was very hot and stuff like that and you would not want to walk around the streets of Tbilisi that day afternoon without anything. That is the worst thing in summers, I guess, because it's just unbearable to walk outside during that time, especially when you have some things to do and not just hang around or something like that.
The make-up
So I went to the lectures and surprisingly they finished on time or maybe even a little earlier and I could go to that hairdresser to whom my sister had an appointment, so I went. I didn't know which hairstyle she had chosen finally, because I had seen some of her choices and I didn't know which one she chose. Well, it took me something like forty minutes to get from Sanzona to Vake, as the hairstylist was in Vake on Chavchavadze Avenue and I needed some time to get there. I can say that I came there just in time. They had been there for a couple of minutes and that was pretty good. So I came there just to see my sister had artificial hair stuck in her hair too. I didn’t know that she was going to do that. Of course, there were some mentioning about it, but then she refused. So I was surprised that she actually did that, but I guess that was a good idea. The hairstylist had just stuck it in her hair and at that moment she was doing the styling. And they told me that my uncle was waiting for them somewhere nearby, so that he would take them home to dress up and get ready and all the other stuff, because as I’ve told you, there was little time between the styling and then getting together and with my uncle waiting for them in his car, they would get faster at home and then change and everything would be just fine. Well, I wanted to see my uncle until I had to go to my German language lesson and I phoned him, but I guess I should’ve phoned him some time earlier, because it was already a couple of minutes until I had to go to be on time on my lesson and he told me that he could not park nearby, so he had to go somewhere a little further and park there. And, well, if I went there, then I would have to come back, of course, to the bus station, so I would be late, so I changed my mind and went into the hairdresser’s and saw what progress they had made and then I left for my German lesson hoping that when I finished it and got home, my sister and mother wouldn’t have left the apartment by then.
Getting ready
After my lesson I immediately went home and was happy that they hadn’t left. In fact, they wouldn’t be leaving for some time, because my sister’s classmates weren’t even somewhere near. So I saw them all dressed up and stuff and my sister looked just amazing and my mother wasn’t dressed up yet. Well, I gave her some advices about shoes and which one to wear, at least. Then I took some pictures of my sister and they didn’t come out as I wanted, but at least she looked beautiful in that long blue dress with all those jewellery and make-up and stuff, you know.
Then, finally her classmates told her that they would meet her somewhere nearby and they left with my brother with his car. As it seemed, they would go to Mtatsminda Park and take some pictures there and then they would come back to the city and go to their reserved restaurant. That was the plan. They had this restaurant reserved for 7 p. m., but it seemed that they wouldn’t be there for at least an hour, that was how it was going to be!
Looking for the restaurant
Well, until they got to the restaurant, my father came home from work and since he hadn’t seen my sister all dressed up and stuff, he wanted to see her, of course, so we decided to go to the restaurant and wait for her to get there and so that my father would see her and my mother and so on and so forth. However, we didn’t really know where that restaurant was exactly. We only knew that it was in Dighomi somewhere.
So, we went from the Tbilisi Sea road to Dighomi and meanwhile I had Google Maps on my phone searching for this restaurant and, well, it showed me something somewhere and of course, I trusted the App and I told my father that the restaurant was exactly there and we were sure, that we would find it. At least, I was sure! However, when we got to Dighomi and went on Aghmashenebeli Alley, there were many things there and I couldn’t really see a sign or something with the restaurant name on it. But until we started exactly looking for it, we felt kind of hungry and went into Smart Supermarket. They have these prepared meals and stuff like that, which are pretty delicious and I’ve written about all of this in my another blog. So we got some things like salmon fillets and Mexican chicken and we thought that while we were eating my sister and her classmates would be somewhere nearby after that photoshooting in Mtatsminda Park and we would meet them. So, what we could do was to go and look for their restaurant and wait for them there. And it wasn’t an easy job, as it turned out.
Well, to be honest, we went on circles for two or three times, I guess, and this Aghmashenebeli Alley isn’t a short road, if you want to know the truth. So it was really exhausting and annoying at the same time, I guess, because we couldn’t find anything and we took all that road and stuff. Then we called them and asked so many times where the restaurant was and my mother was telling us some things that we didn’t really get and, well, then we decided that maybe we could go to the very beginning of this Alley and start from there. That was a great decision, because the restaurant was kind of in the beginning of it, so we found it and parked there and waited for them to get there. They were on their way by that time we got there, so it would be some time until we met them.
Soon my sister’s teachers came. They hadn’t been on Mtatsminda Park, they just came directly to the restaurant, so they didn’t know when their students would arrive. I was pretty glad to see them, because they used to teach me too and I hadn’t seen them for some years now. Well, we talked a little, I told them about my studies in medical university and how I have two more years until I finish it and then there are more years, of course. At the same time, we were waiting for the children to arrive and I phoned my mother and she said they were already in Dighomiand that soon they would be at the restaurant, so we were all looking forward to it.
Arriving at the restaurant
The first car that arrived was my brother’s of course, who would think that anyone else would come first! There were my sister, my brother and my mother in the car. Then there was this meeting with the teachers and we took some photos and they were amazed by my sister and they hadn’t seen her for a very long time, too, because she studies in Germany and she hasn’t been here and they were talking about stuff, you know, how it is here and there.
Finally the others came, too, with their cars and all. Well, the drivers were someone’s brother or a friend or whoever a little older or something like that. They were all happy and telling jokes and taking photos and meeting their teachers. Soon came their parents, too, because, you know, in Georgia there’s no prom without parents. And the parents were all dressed up and stuff, of course.
There was this guy going here and there, I guess, he wanted us to help him with some money as he saw us all dressed up and stuff and he thought we would have money with us and would help him a little. He just walked and talked some things and it was kind of annoying and he even went and kissed on the back of one boy’s shoulder, I guess, and it was very odd. Well, it was good that he didn’t do anything else and he was just going around the place. Soon the photographer came, too and the guy with a camera and so everyone was in place and they could start the entering ceremony with video camera on and stuff like that.
So, first of all, the parents made the entrance with the music turned on in the background, then there were teachers, I guess, and then the graduates. They were all coupled up and stuff, but there were something like 12 boys and 5 girls or so, so that each girl had two partners kind of. And, you know, that was way better, I guess. They made the entrance, too. There was this red carpet rolled out for them and, well, that was a great entrance, if you want to know the truth.
Well, I don’t really know what happened inside the restaurant, because then we left and my sister and my mother were there on my sister’s prom, you know, so I don’t have much of the details about the stuff going on inside, but I guess, they were all satisfied with the situationand all the other stuff. Though they said the menu wasn’t very rich and some things could have been done differently. Well, everything has its flaws and I guess, that wasn’t a big flaw, so, at least they had a good time and that’s what matters, because then this all will be just memories and good memories are all we have left some time later (or, maybe, bad memories count, too).
