National Endocrinology Center

The introduction

Hello everyone, I hope that you all are doing well!

Now I want to tell you about this place in Tbilisi, which is called the National Endocrinology Center and it’s located in Dighomi, on Lubliana street, where all those other hospitals are and they have all those endocrinology things and stuff like that.

Well, to be honest, I really didn’t know much about the endocrinology center, because I’ve never been there and I had not heard of it, though I study medicine at the Tbilisi State Medical University and I’m on the fifth year now and, perhaps, I should know about things like that, because if anyone asks, it’s kind of my field, I mean, the medicine, so that I should be able to answer them about those centers and clinics and stuff like that, you know. at least, that’s how I feel, and, I guess, many of my friends or people who know me, I guess. Because they think, that I must know everything about the medicine in Georgia and, about the medicine, in general. That’s the thought spreaded among the people, if you want to know the truth and they ask you many questions about things and they don’t really realize, that you’re only a student and you don’t really know much about everything and everyone and you don’t really know many people working as doctors and stuff like that, because the students are plenty and those doctors are not and those doctors don’t really have to know all the students and stuff like that, you know. now I might not make any sense, but, still, you might get the idea of what I’m talking about.

Anyways, this National Endocrinology Center is pretty wonderfully built and everything there is new and tidied up and clean and the environment is very friendly and there are water machines everywhere with those plastic cups. You know, there are many places, where you can find those water machines, filled with water, but there are no plastic cups anywhere nearby, so that if someone wants to drink water, they look at those machines and they see, that the water is there, but they can’t drink it, because there are no plastic cups there and so that they just stand there and look at the water tank filled with water, you know. that’s pretty funny from other’s point of view, but not for that guy, who is thirsty and wants to drink some water pretty badly. Well, in that case, he can do nothing, but to remain thirsty, or if he has a cup of his own, he can drink the water, of course, and then he will be all happy and stuff, you know. well, there’s another option _ there are many places, where there are those machines, which can prepare you different types of coffee and tea and hot chocolate and you can have them for 1 Laris or more. I guess, the hot chocolate was 2 Laris or something. I remember that, because once I had it from those kinds of machines, but it was some years ago, so that I don’t really remember it exactly, however, the taste of that hot chocolate was pretty good, besides, it was freezing outside and drinking that hot chocolate was kind of a relief and we were at the university and we had these lectures and we were freezing out and it was a blessing in disguise, if you want to know the truth. However, I still don’t like those things from those machines and I prefer preparing some stuff on my own. It’s just that, these machines help a lot in such cases that I mentioned above, because you can just get there and put your coin inside and get something hot immediately. However, the cup is pretty small, if you ask me, and it should not cost that much, you know. although, there is not much that you can get from that machines. I mean, the cups are not that big and you may want to have another cup of that drink, however, you may not have the time to drink another one, because it’s too hot, you know. some people are able to drink anything when it’s hot, however, I can’t drink anything until it’s warm or something like that, and I usually wait for some time for the drink to get colder. It’s not that simple, you know. usually, I get to be the last one to drink up my drink and it’s pretty bad when you are the last one and everyone else is waiting for you to finish your drink or whatsoever to get out of there. You know, everyone’s talking about my eating habits, I mean, it’s really bad eating fast, you know, every scientist say that, so I’m not saying that this is the reason of why I’m eating slowly, but I eat really slowly, if you want to know the truth and when everyone finishes their meal in a couple of minutes, I just start eating then, I guess. And it seems like I eat a lot, when, in fact, I’m eating the same thing for the whole time and I don’t really have this idea of eating that thing for the whole time. Well, at least, eating slowly is good for our digestive system, and, besides, when eating slowly, you don’t really get to eat much and it’s good, of course. When eating fast, especially after coming home and you’re starving and you haven’t eaten the whole day and you see the food, you want to eat everything and you just gobble down and things like that, that is pretty bad and that’s when you eat much and without any aim or whatsoever, you know. you just eat and eat and eat…

How I know about the National Endocrinology Center

Anyways, I found out about the National Endocrinology Center from Facebook, where there was this advertisement about them, saying that they had this sale or something like that about the thyroid gland diagnostics and that people could go there and pay half of the price and get their thyroid gland diagnosted. I mean, they could get an ultrasound of thyroid gland and have their TSH tested and stuff like that. So that, you could see, whether your thyroid gland was in a good shape or not. Well, that was a good idea, if you want to know the truth. Besides, it’s said, that every person should check their thyroid gland and thyroid hormones every year and control them, and it had already been two years since I last checked them, so that I went there and asked them, whether I could get into that program or not. They were pretty pleased about that and told me that I could participate in that program. I made an appointment there for the next day and until that, I went to the endocrinologist and told her about my symptoms and everything and had a little bit of a consulting until making my appointment. I preferred the appointment the next day, because that way, I would get all my earlier analyses and results and diagnosis and take them with me and show them to the endocrinologist, so that she would better understand everything. Well, I was looking forward to the next day, because I was kind of sure, that there was something wrong with my thyroid and I would be prescribed some supplements or whatever and my symptoms would get better.

My appointment

So, the next day came and it was time for my appointment and I went there. I paid those 40 Laris instead of 80 and they sent me to the laboratory, where they had my blood taken and then I was sent upstairs to get the ultrasound and then I would go into the room of the endocrinologist.

The funny thing was, that when I went upstairs, I sat there among the people, who were also waiting for the ultrasound and I was waiting for them to call my name for a really long time, if you want to know the truth, because all the other ones were called by name and even those ones were in and out who came after me and I started doubting about them calling me, however, I was still sitting there, waiting. Then there was this lady, who asked about how to get in and stuff like that and there was this other one, who was already inside and outside and was waiting for the answers and she told her, that she had to open that door and there was this box next to the door and put their names in it and then they would call their names. And that was when I realized, why I didn’t get inside earlier. I had that paper with my name on it in my hands and I didn’t know if I had to go inside and put it in that box for them to call my name, because no one had told me that, and thanks to that lady, I didn’t have to wait for them to call me when in fact, they wouldn’t call me, because there was no paper with my name on it inside the box, you know. so that, I opened the door and put that paper with my name on it inside the box and returned to my place, where I would wait for them to call my name. soon this lady came out and called my name, well, she called my name not entirely correctly, but it was okay until they called me, so I went in and had my thyroid checked. I was said to lie down on that bad and to stretch my neck and she started measuring my thyroid and she would tell the assistant the measurements and she would write them down and stuff like that. Then she finished that checking and told me to wait outside and she would come outside and give me the paper of the results and then I could go to the endocrinologist. I waited for her outside and soon she came out with the paper and then I went to the endocrinologist.

She remembered me and started talking to me about the diagnosis and stuff like that. I showed her the results of the ultrasound and my previous tests and everything. She told me that there was nothing wrong with my thyroid size was on a normal level. The one thing that was unusual was that the thyroid was “colourful” and we could do more testing to find out why it was so colourful and I told her that I would do those tests and so that she added those tests to be valued during that blood test and stuff like that. She also took my measurements or weight and height and asked about any diseases and stuff like that, you know, the anamnesis and stuff. She was pretty nice, if you want to know the truth. The results of my tests would be the next day and she told me to come back the other day, so that she would have those results by that time and she would tell me more about my condition.

Well, the next day I visited her again. She had my results and all those hormones were on a normal level, so that she told me that those symptoms were not coming from my thyroid and if I wanted to see what was wrong, I would probably had to do those testing of adrenal glands and other hormones and she had all those listed for me and things like that, which cost pretty expensive, of course, and told me to think about it and checking them and stuff like that. So that, I left the center and went home. Of course, I wanted to have those tests done, however, they were too much and I decided to have them taken some time later, besides, some of them couldn’t be done at that time anyways.
