Cakes in Tbilisi

The introduction

Hello everyone, I hope that you are all doing just fine!

Today I want to tell you about these bakeries in Tbilisi and where to buy some delicious cakes, because many people don’t prepare cakes at home and when they have some visitors, they just go to the supermarket or some place else and buy those prepared cakes. To be honest, that’s a pretty good idea, because baking a cake is pretty time consuming and, besides, you don’t really know, whether it will be delicious, or not. Or maybe it won’t be beautiful or something like that. So that you can always go to some supermarket or a bakery and choose a perfect cake for yourself!

Cakes in Tbilisi

Well, there are many places, where they have cakes in Tbilisi and there are plenty of them, if you want to know the truth. However, there are only some places, where it’s known that they have a very delicious cakes, you know. Those places are pretty famous amongst people and when they need a cake for a birthday party or friends or whatsoever, they go there and buy those cakes and go home or wherever they are taking that cake pleased and satisfied, that they bought a beautiful and delicious cake.

Well, to be honest, I don’t know much of those places, I guess, however, I know where I buy delicious cakes, and I know those places, too, where I have bought some cakes and I liked some of them and I didn’t like some of them, of course. So that, now I know where to buy which cake and it’s pretty easy now to decide where to buy what. I mean, you should know what kind of cake you are looking for, because that’s how you decide which place you are visiting to buy a cake. There are different types of cakes all over the city and it all depends, which cake you want to have.

The supermarkets

Let’s start with those large supermarkets, which have some factory made cakes, which are pretty standartised and stuff like that. I’m not saying, that they are not beautiful, they look pretty amazing, if you want to know the truth, however, they are not that delicious as homemade ones, of course. I mean, their cream is not what I like and they are light and fluffy and if you ask me, some cakes need to be heavy and stuff like that. However, we are all individuals and we all have different tastes, so that, maybe others like those cakes, I eat them, too, of course, however, I would rather eat other cakes, than those factory made ones.

They have cakes in almost all those supermarkets. Though Nikora has a very few choices of them. I haven’t tasted its cakes, if you want to know the truth. However, they have this small chocolate cake, which we bought once and I tasted it and it was okay, I mean, it had this whipped cream, which is not very tasty, but the cake was alright in all.

So, you can find some cakes in Smart Supermarket, too, and there’s a variety of them, if you want to know the truth, and there are tasty ones, too. They also look beautiful, so that it’s not that bad if you choose any of them, because they taste okay and they look nice, too. They also bake cakes if you tell them, I mean, they take orders, so that many people go to them and order cakes for their childrens’ birthdays and stuff like that, you know, and they make beautiful cakes, if you want to know the truth. They also have these pieces of cakes, which I like. They have different kinds of them and I like some of them and when I go to their café sometimes I buy them and eat them. They are kind of expensive when looking at their size and comparing them to the usual bakeries’ cakes, however, they taste good, if you ask me.

There are the same situations in other supermarkets, too. If you visit Goodwill, you will see a variety of cakes and they have pretty good cakes, if you ask me. I mean, they have some cakes, that are not in Smart Supermarket and they are pretty delicious, too. And their bakery is pretty good, if you want to know the truth. They always have a large variety of cakes and cookies and stuff like that. Their bakery is pretty large and they have all sorts of things and I always like looking at those things, though I can’t really decide which one to buy, because I want to buy so many of them, but I can’t really eat all of them at the same time, of course, so that I have to choose some, you know.

Then there is Carrefour. They have some cakes, too, however, we bought some pieces of cakes there once and we didn’t really like them, so that we don’t buy cakes there anymore. Well, maybe those were just not very good, I don’t know, however, the fact is, that we didn’t like those two cakes, so that now we don’t buy their cakes. However, they have pretty good muffins and donuts, if you want to know the truth.

These days Fresco supermarket is getting some cakes little by little, however, they don’t have much of a choice when it comes to cakes and they only have a few of them, however, if you want to buy a cake, there’s still some of them there and you can choose one. Though, if there’s another option nearby, you can go there and buy that cake there, if you ask me.

“Ori Nabiji” which means “two steps” also have some cakes, well, they have those two or three types of cakes, I guess. However, I really like their roll with cream filling, it’s really delicious and it doesn’t cost much. you should definitely try it.

Well, that’s briefly about the cakes in supermarkets in Tbilisi. And now I want to tell you about bakeries in Tbilisi, which have pretty good cakes.

Mada bakery

The first thing, that I want to tell you about is this Mada bakery, which is really popular in Tbilisi and they have really delicious things there, I mean, they have cakes and big cakes and Khachapuris and Lobianis and other things, too. The prices are pretty reasonable, and everything’s really delicious, so that now you understand why this bakery is so popular here. It’s nearby my friend’s place and so that I got to know about Mada bakery from her and since then we visit it pretty often, if you want to know the truth.

This other day, it was my father’s birthday and I went there to buy a birthday cake. They have their own cake and I wanted to buy it. I have tasted it earlier and it was really delicious because of its 4 types of cream filling in it and the tasty biscuits, though it had bananas in it that time and now they told me that it had cherries, however, I knew that it would be just as much delicious with cherries as it was with bananas, so that I bought it and it cost 20 Laris and it was pretty large for the price if you want to know the truth and everyone liked it. While buying that cake, I looked at those Khachapuris and Lobianis and I decided to buy one Khachapuri, too, they had these large Khachapuris, they call it 8-pieces Khachapuri or whatever and they looked pretty delicious, and, besides, they cost 8 Laris and it was a pretty reasonable price, and I knew, that it would be really tasty. Also, my parents just love Khachapuri, so that they would like to have one, if you want to know the truth. And, well, this Khachapuri was very delicious, it was so delicious, that even I ate the whole piece of it, I mean, I usually don’t eat much Khachapuri, so…

They also have delicious Napoleon cake, though it was not cut into pieces and, I guess, they just sell the whole cake, and it costs 12 Laris, if I remember correctly. They also had this Snickers cake when I was there and it looked so tasty, that I bought it and it really was good! Well, their cream fillings are pretty much delicious and that’s what makes them great, I guess.

They also have these Rachuli Lobiani and Khachapuri with ham and things like that and that Rachuli Lobiani is really good and you should taste it, and, besides, it just costs 2 Laris.

Bela’s cakes

To be honest, you would hear “Bela’s cakes” everywhere in Tbilisi, because it’s really famous bakery, I mean, everyone would just buy birthday cakes and stuff like that there and it has many places, where you can buy famous Bela’s cakes. Despite the fact, I don’t know, I just find it very casual, because it’s not that delicious, if you ask me. And the cream around those cakes don’t look very delicious. You know, the cake should be pretty, too, besides the taste, of course. When I look at the cake, I should want to eat it and everything, if you ask me. So that I didn’t find that likeability in those cakes, if you want to know the truth.

Other bakeries

Well, there are many places, where they have cakes in Tbilisi, in general. However, I know some of them, where there are just bakeries next to each other and I wonder, how they sell cakes, I mean, they are opponents of each other and they have shops next to each other and I wonder, which one sells more cakes in all.

There are many of them on Vazha-Pshavela avenue nearby the statue of Vazha-Pshavela, and I haven’t tasted their stuff, however the cakes look pretty delicious there. And there’s this one bakery near Nikora supermarket, where I once bought an éclair, I guess, and it was pretty cheap and it was really delicious, so that I went there again to taste this éclair again.

There is a bakery on a crossing nearby Vazha-Pshavela avenue and Kazbegi street, near Ori Nabiji supermarket, where you can eat some cakes, I mean, they are really delicious and I especially love their truffles, which are covered with chocolate and cost just 50 Tetris. They have those ones with coconut flakes, too. When we are nearby that shop and we want to eat some cakes, we just visit it, because they really have some good stuff, though the shop is pretty small and they don’t have much variety, however, the ones that they have are worth tasting!

There’s this one bakery near Delisi metro station and it’s called “Iti” and it’s a place, where we go from time to time to eat some delicious cakes. You know, they have pretty good stuff there and my friend especially loves their cake called “Opium” and she has suggested many times tasting it, however, I haven’t tasted it yet, because every time we went in there, I just wanted some other cakes and those pieces are so large, that you can’t eat more than one, if you ask me. Well, at least, I can’t eat more than one, you know. So, they have those pieces of cakes as well as the large cakes, I mean, those ones that you can take for birthday parties or some other parties and stuff like that. They have pretty good cakes and there are some different kinds of them, so that you can choose from them. They also take orders and once when we were there, there were some people taking their ordered cake and, well, you can’t resist not looking, right?! So that I looked at their cake and it was pretty and it looked really delicious.

Another place, where you can buy some pretty good cakes is in Varketili. I mean, there are lot’s of bakeries there, you can be surprised how many of those there are next to each other and all of them have many cakes and stuff like that. There are some new ones, too and they have pretty large rooms there, if you want to know the truth.

One of them is called “Dolce Vita” and they have some variety of cakes and when I was there to see what they had, there were many people there and they were all buying some cakes and stuff. They were pretty familiar with the shop and staff and everything, if you want to know the truth, so that they were usual clients of theirs, you know. So, I guessed, they had all those delicious cakes there and I bought a roll filled with cream, because I just wanted to eat it, so when I tasted it, it was pretty good and I really liked it, so that I do recommend buying some cakes therein Dolce Vita. And the prices are reasonable there, too.

The other place, where I’ve bought some cakes and liked is on a parallel street from Dolce Vita, well, kind of. It’s nearby the metro station, too, when you walk downhill a little and there’s this light signal and you go left on the street, after one block, you will see this bakery, which has tables and chairs there, too, and you can buy something and eat it there or you can take it, of course. They have some cakes and some of them are really delicious, for example, this “Ideal” cake or “Nutella” cake and others. Their chocolate cakes are more delicious, than the white and fruity ones, if you ask me. Once me and my sister bought there cakes for Christmas and all of them were pretty delicious. Though, their cakes are a little expensive, than in other bakeries, I guess. And they also have Khachapuris and Lobianis and Bachlava and other things, if you are interested.

The other bakery is just nearby this one and I’ve bought some cakes there, too, and, well, their large cakes are not that tasty, as those pieces of cakes, which they sell, I mean, they have a really tasty Napoleon cake and I like their pies, they are pretty good, too. However, if you want something large, such as a birthday cake or something like that, I wouldn’t recommend buying there, I mean, there are better bakeries, where you can find those delicious large cakes for parties and stuff.
