Buying wine glasses in Tbilisi

The introduction

Hello everyone, I hope, that you are all doing just fine!

In this article I want to tell you about some glasses and my experience in Tbilisi of finding those exact same glasses, which I had seen in the Internet and how I wanted to buy them for my friend’s birthday, you know. Well, to tell you the truth, that was not very easy thing to do, because when I saw them, I didn’t really know, where to buy them, because I have never been that glass-knower, I mean, my mother really loves looking at some fancy glasses and buying them and stuff like that, however, she doesn’t have this exact shop or place or whatsoever for buying those glasses, she just buys them in any shop or supermarket she goes in and sees those glasses , that she likes and then she buys them. However, I still don’t get, why people should buy so many glasses, I mean, you should just have some of them and use them and there are people, who just buy those stuff and place them in  the kitchen somewhere on the shelves or in some other places and they just don’t use them and those glasses are put there and that’s it, the dust eats them, I guess, because no one really uses them and that’s pretty sad , of course. It’s like they are not even for the show, I mean, if they are put into some ward or something like that with that kitchen door and everything, they are not even seen from the outside and then there’s no point of having them there,I mean, nobody will know, that you have those fancy glasses in that thing, until you open that door and show them to people especially for them to know, that you have such great glasses in your kitchen. Well, if you put them inside that thing, which has a glass door or glass shelf, then those glasses will be shown and people will see them and, well, at least, you should have that thing and put those glasses behind them, so that, since you are not using them, at least other people will see them and know , that you have those glasses, at least, for the decoration or whatever.

Anyways, once I was visiting my friend, and it was my birthday, too, and she just had all that chocolate and stuff and they sang me the birthday song and everything and I was pretty surprised, you know, and I was pretty happy, too, because I really didn’t have anything planned that day, well, I had some plans for the evening, however, I didn’t really know, whether that plan would work or not, I mean, it was just my uncle and cousin and aunt going to be at my house that day, though I didn’t really know, whether they would be free to come or not, so that I didn’t really hope for many things that day and, besides, I had this lecture in the late afternoon, which would last for hours and, well, it was not a free day at all, if you want to know the truth. So that, when I got to my friend, and, I was not going to visit her in the first place, if you want to know the truth, however, she just asked to come and since I was just nearby her apartment, I decided to go there and hang out with her until it was time for my lecture to start. And then I would go to that lecture and it was on Kavtaradze street and it would be easier to get there from her house, than from mine or whatever. So that, I went to her apartment and, first, we were going to watch some TV series or a movie or something, however, then we decided to have a little celebration of my birthday and drink some wine with  chocolates and stuff like that, and, besides, I had these dark chocolate gingnerbread cookies bought and they would be good with it, I guess.

Well, we went down to the supermarket and started choosing some wine. To be honest, I really don’t know much about wine and I just let her choose it for us. She wanted to have some red wine drank and there were many variations of Georgian wine in those bottles and the prices were different, too, and, I guess, she bought the very expensive one, or, at least, it was kind of expensive comparing to those other ones, there. It cost more than 20 Laris and, I guess, it was a 1 litre bottle or something like that. Well, she took that one, because she wanted us to have some good wine. So, we had some dessert upstairs, however, then we decided to have something to eat, too, I mean, some meal or whatever and after looking at some prepared dishes and salads and things like that in that supermarket, we decided to have a look at that bakery next to it, which I just like to visit often, because they have some great things there and, besides, there is much variety of those stuff comparing to other bakeries or something like that. However, I didn’t really know, that it had this entrance and there were tables and chairs inside and people were sitting there, eating some of their dishes and I was surprised, that they even had those prepared meals there, which you could buy and eat them there and that was a pretty good surprise, because those things are very efficient and they have reasonable prices and when you just want to eat something in a normal way at the table and everything and you don’t want to buy some fast food and you just want to have a salad or stew or whatever, you can just go there and have them just the way you would have them in your kitchen. And, besides, they can be even better, than the things in your kitchen, because there are some professional cooks and they know how to cook those things, so that they can be prepared in a simple, but delicious way and that’s what the greatest thing is in cooking. I mean,  if you learn how to prepare some things in  a simple way and, at the same time, they are delicious and just the way you like, that’s just a great success and then you will just prepare that thing with pleasure and more often, if you ask me.

So, we went there in that bakery and looked at those different things. Well, the cakes just looked amazing and there were these pound cakes, that I had been wanting to taste, however, we already had some chocolates and ginger bread cookies and there was not the necessity of buying some other sweet things, you know, however, it would not have been a bad idea to take any pound cake from that bakery, because, I’m sure, that it would have been just very delicious. Well, anyways, I will buy them some other time and taste them, because I really want to taste them some time and see whether they taste that delicious as they look wonderful or not.

So, as they are a bakery, they have some great Lobianis and Khachapuris, too, of course, I mean, there’s not a bakery in Georgia, that doesn’t have Khachapuris and Lobianis, you know, so that we bought two Khachapuris and two Lobianis and took them with us. On our way home, my  friend remembered, that she needed something to open that wine bottle and that she didn’t really have anything like that at home, so that we decided to go to that supermarket, where she bought the wine and ask them if they had the bottle opener. Well, we got lucky and they told us that they had the bottle opener and it cost something like 1 or 2 laris, so that we bought it and went happily at home looking forward to drinking some wine and having a great time together until my time came to go to the lecture.

Getting to her apartment, we started cutting those Lobianis and Khachapuris and it was time to open the bottle and no one had the experience of opening a wine bottle, so that my friend just took it and as seen on TV, put the bottle opener into that bottle cover and started turning it inside and when it was into the cover, then she pulled it out, however, it was not moving at all. Well, obviously, it needed much power and she just “grabbed” all the power she had to take that thing out, however, thing really changed and that continued for a couple of minutes and we were kind of thinking, that we were doing something wrong or the bottle opener was not that good or something like that. Well, something was really off.

However, after some time and much power and everything, that wooden thing was pulled out and now we could have the wine!

The smell was just great and it looked great, too, so that the choice she made in choosing that wine was a good choice, I would say. And it was a nice drink to drink, I mean, the taste was great and the smell was great and you could just sip it and enjoy the red wine, I would say. And it seemed, that we were pretty hungry, as we ate some of those lobianis and Khachapuri pieces and only after that we ate some chocolates and ginger bread cookies, and, well, it was after that, that we read some things written on the wine bottle and it said, that we should drink that wine with something sweet, like chocolates or something like that and, well, it was quite a shame, that we didn’t read it until that, if you want to know the truth. And there was this other thing and that’s the main thing why I started telling this story in the first place. You know, they have different glasses to drink different types of wine, so that the smell and taste can be obvious and fully distributed. Well, we didn’t have any wine glasses there and we just had these mugs, in which people usually drink some tea or coffee and we drank that red wine with those mugs, and it was not that it felt like drinking wine, I mean, it was more like we were drinking some cherry or peach juice and that’s when I decided to gift my friend some wine glasses on her birthday and her birthday was just coming up in a couple of days, so that I would buy her some glasses for wine. And, well, as she mostly likes red wine and prefers it to the white one, I knew, that the glasses for red wine were kind of angled and high and some things like that and, besides, I googled them and showed them to my friend while talking about the wine glasses and how funny it was to drink that red wine with those mugs and she didn’t suspect anything about my decision of having her gifted some red wine glasses, so that everything was just perfect and I just had to go to some supermarkets and choose those red wine glasses for her. It would have been easy, if I knew where to look for those glasses, I mean, of course, there are some special supermarkets for those kinds of things, but they can be very expensive and, besides, they might not even have those kinds of things, that you want, I mean, usually they don’t have much variety of products, however, the prices are pretty high. So that, people usually know some supermarkets or places, where you can buy some great things in some normal and reasonable prices and in those places there’s even more choice of products, than in those expensive supermarkets. Well, I had to know about those places, you know, however, I didn’t have much clue, where they could be. Though, I had some ideas about that and, of course, first of all, I would go to those places, and I also decided to google some of them and see whether I could find some great red wine glasses on the Internet and perhaps I could even buy them online with that delivery in Tbilisi and stuff like that, however, there were just some wine glass sets in the Internet and I didn’t really liked those ones, so that I decided to see them myself in some of those places, where I thought, that I would find some good wine glasses in a good price. And, besides, I didn’t want to buy just one glass or something like that, of course. I had decided to have somewhere about 6 glasses bought, well, at least, the sets are like that mostly, I mean, there are sets of two, three, six and etc. as I know.

Looking for red wine glasses

Anyways, I started looking for some of those red wine glasses, you know, and I was pretty sure, that I would find them on the Internet on some web pages, which offer you buy online and they can deliver the goods to you pretty soon, I mean, they usually have fast delivery throughout the city of Tbilisi and you should pay somewhere about 4 laris, I guess, and sometimes, if you have more than some amount of money paid, they can deliver the goods free of charge and that’s pretty good for anyone, I guess, because that way you don’t have to go there to their supermarket and take those things from there and get home and everything. and, well, besides, it’s pretty bad, when you don’t have a car and you move around the city on foot and if you have something like those glasses bought, you know, because the box is pretty large and you can merely carry it with you and if you take the public transport that time, it’s really a bad idea, because there usually are not empty places to sit or whatever and they are pretty crowded, too, I mean, you can’t even stand right and not to mention about sitting there, so that it’s very dangerous to take something like that by public  transport and it’s always a better idea if you catch a taxi, I guess. Well, I did carry those glasses in a box by hand and it was pretty bad idea, if you want to know the truth.

Well, after finding nothing on the Internet, I decided to have a look at some of those places, where those kinds of things were being sold, I mean, there were some glass supermarkets nearby my home, where I bought some things some time ago and I remembered some good glasses being there and I thought, there might have been some red wine glasses, too, so that one day I decided to have a look at them.

The day was pretty cold, I mean, it snowed that day and when I woke up, everything outside was in white and it was still snowing and everything was frozen, however, I still wanted to go and look for those glasses, because that was the day, that I had some free time and then I wouldn’t have time until some other days and it would be kind of late, because I wanted to have that glasses for my friend’s birthday and stuff like that, you know. So that, no matter how freezing it was outside and how I wanted to sleep and be at home and have some hot drink and everything like that, you know how it is when it’s snowing outside and you just want to stay at home and do nothing and have some hot chocolate and watch some films or whatever. I just really wanted that. However, no matter what weather it is, I never do that, I mean, it never happens, because I can’t just sit there at home all day long and not do anything at all and just sip that hot chocolate or whatever. I really have to go outside even once in a day and walk a little bit and then return back, I guess, because I just can’t sit or lay or whatever.And when I’m feeling ill, and I just have to lay in bed and be like that, it’s really killing me, because, as I’ve already told you, I can not stand being at home doing nothing. Well, walking in the rooms helps a little at that time, if you want to know the truth. However, that still is not anything real and I always look forward to getting better, so that I can go outside and walk in the streets of the city and just walk and walk and not do anything else. Well, I might go into some supermarkets or places like that and just wander around, because I don’t really need to buy anything, you know, I just like to walk into that supermarkets and look at the products and prices and then compare them with each other and that’s my thing, I guess, because I really enjoy doing that.

Well, it was snowing and it was kind of freezing, and it was a pretty bad idea to go outside, if you want tto  know the truth, however, I still went and the very first shop, where I went was this one just nearby Varketili metro station and it’s really a good one, I can say, however, some things are expensive there, if you want to know the truth. Though, there are many things there together and if you want to buy some kitchenware, you should go there and you won’t be disappointed, if you ask me. They have some good stuff there and we have bought some of those things and they have been great so far. So that, I hoped, that they would have those kind of glasses there, that I wanted to buy and that’s why I went to that shop in the first place, and, well, they did have those glasses, and they had some different variations of them and I couldn’t really decide, which one would be a better choice. However, as it’s our habit, I was not going to buy them at once and I wanted to look for those glasses in some other places, so that I would know the prices and types of glasses there in that shop and then visit other shops and see what they would offer me and then decide which one to buy,of course. And I would know, that there were these glasses in this shop and if I couldn’t find anything else in other places, I would go back there and buy them, you know. However, first, I would go to other places and see some other stuff.

The second place, where I went was this glass shop, where they have some good glasses and I have bought some glasses there, too. It’s just in the beginning of Shuamta street nearby the bazaar and stuff like that. Though they didn’t have any of those glasses and I had to move to the next shop.

The next one was on that same Shuamta street, kind of nearby that other glass shop, which I visit before that. They have many glasses there and some kitchenware and some toys, too, for the kids and things like that and I knew, that they would have some kind of these glasses and they did have them, however, they just had those simple and usual stuff there and I didn’t really like them for my friend.

The next stop was in bazaar, where I knew those places, where they have those glasses and other stuff and which offer all those different things in reasonable prices to the customers, so that I hoped, that there I would find some good glasses for good price and I did find them, if you want to know the truth. And they were just pretty awesome and I really liked them, I mean, they were not those casual transparent boring glasses, but they were this beautiful  ones with dark leg or whatever, that made them look pretty fabulous and I just really wanted to have them as a gift. And, well, I would also like them to have at home and that made them even more desirable, I mean, if the gift is something, that you like so much, that you want to have them too, then it’s really a good one, if you ask me. So that, I decided to have those glasses bought and though there were two kinds of them and I thought about which one to get for a long time, that I almost froze to death there, I finally decided to have the short ones. You know, there were some short and tall ones and those tall ones were pretty great, too, however, they reminded me more of a champagne glasses, than the red wine glasses, so that it was that thing, that helped me decide which one to choose and I chose the short ones and, I guess, it was a good choice.

There were also some other shops and supermarkets, where I could find those kinds of glasses, and maybe there were even better ones than those ones, that I had bought, however, I really didn’t want to go to some other places, and, besides, I didn’t know for sure, that they would have those glasses or whether I would like them or not, so that I just bought them there nearby my home and I was pretty satisfied with that, however, I was really frozen, I must say and I really wanted to get home soon, so that I would drink some hot chocolate or tea or something and I would get warm.
