The“balcony to the Mediterranean”

The“balcony to the Mediterranean” shows the beautiful panarama to the sea and the port.I sometimes go there when Iwant to have a rest and enjoy the boundless picture of the sea and the railway lines.A Lot of people gather here at sunrise and sunset for the amusing view. There are cafes, where you can sit enjoying and having dinner at the same time. There are also various shops around here, especially I love Ale-Hop shop which is full of ornaments and souvenirs.

This name was given to this place by Emilio Castellar. As I know it has different names besides this one.The statue of  Roger of Lauria is around the area, who was one of the most successful and talented medieval tactics in the 13 century.

Roman Amphitheatre

This amphitheatre is very well preserved. This will be a pleasureable place for those who are fond of the history of Ancient Rome. You can have a lot of beautiful pictures especially when you are above it.When I was above it I thought why we are paying for the entrance, if even  you can see everything clearly from above,as well as the beautifu lpanarama of the sea, which opens from the theater due to its location on a hill.

The ticket is €3 full, €1.50 for students, groups, retired persons. It is free for under 16s.Tarragona is very near to Barcelona,it takes about 1 hour by bus ot train. And the tourists who come to Barcelona shouldnt miss this chance to see this beauty.

Once the amphitheatre was used for amusement ,e.g.fights between wild beast were held here and public executions.Augurius and Evlogius were burned alive in this amphitheater which was during the oppression of the Christians. And basilica was built here in the memory of them. There is a church inside the amphiteatre. The church is quite old, but I can say that some pieces of the walls are very well preserved. The church and the rooms were built at the same time.

The podium has 3,25 m height ,which is separated  from the arena, protecting spectators from hunting animals. All that we see here is made up of white brick and the stone is shapeless and the most amazing thing that i have learned is that this amphiteatre is the handwork of the "restorers" who created the history of ancient Rome in Tarragona .

La Rambla Nova

In honor of the anniversary of the discovery of New Rambla, this street is called Rambla Nova.It is the place where all important celebrations are held and as well as the New Year tree stands. The monument of "Grandfather on the bench'' you can see in one of the bench in Rambla Nova. The central fountain in Rambla Nova is"font del centenari", which has 4 scuptures.

This is the main street of Tarragona with over 150 years of existence. It crosess the city in the middle, starting at the Imperial Tarraco Square and finishing in the balcony to the Mediterranean. It has greatest number of modern shops unique for its buildings and history. The pavements especially in the way to the balcony to the Mesiterranean is full of cafes and shops.

One of the interesting activities that I usually take part in is mercadillo, which is held only in Tuesdays and Thursdays ,where you have the chance to buy clothes, boots, linens and everything you want cheaper than in the shops. While walking through the shops which seems like tents ,you hear screamings, invitations which is so funny.

The Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber of Commerce of Tarragona is one of the most prominent buildings in Spain. The Chamber was built in the city of Tarragona during 1911-1929.It is situated on the corner of Rambla Nova and Avinguda Pau Casals. The building has a form of a tower. It has a ground floor, three upper floors and the top floor,as well as 2 gallaries and a small balcony. The dome of the tower is so noiticeable. This building as i knew was one of the last buildings to be built using elements of the modernist style inTarragona. It is one of the best known buildings in Tarragona.

The most impressive part is the  banister, which is decorated with images of dragons and other fantastic creatures. This magnificent building was considered to be one of the first in the city of Tarragona, where the elevator appeared.
