Erasmus Experience in Tampere, Finland by Justyna
Why did you choose to go to Tampere, Finland?
I wanted to go for an exchange to Finland and the city didn't really matter so here I am.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
It goes on up to 5 months and €500 per month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Tampere?
It's really nice, of course everything depends on with who you spend time and where you go.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Tampere to other students?
Yeah, I'd recommend the City. And I cannot say much about University of Tampere because I am a student at TAMK, but I think it's worth it though.
What is the food like?
Well, it's not like polish food. At the beginning I hated almost everything but after a while it gets better.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Tampere?
I used TOAS so if you get any offer from them and you want to accept it you have to pay €360 deposit fee.
How much does it cost to live in Tampere?
It depends on everything, if you stay at home and do nothing of course you will spend less money, but if it is actually worth it, I'm not really sure. But food, accommodation and other stuff if you don't spend that much €500-€550/m should be enough.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Finnish might be quite complicated language, they have really long words and it is not similar to any other languages. And yes, language courses are available at UNI.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Tampere from your city?
I live in Gdańsk, Poland so I took a flight from there to Turku and then bus to Tampere.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Tampere?
There are many places that you could go and have fun there.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Tampere?
Yea, Pizzeria Napoli, Bianco, Zarillo, and Hot Wings quite close to Napoli.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Tampere All Bright
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Tampere in the future?
Do not hesitate, spend your time good, travel a lot. Oh and remember that you won't buy alcohol in Finland after 9pm (after 9pm only in bars and clubs) and it's quite expensive.
