Truth about Tallinn
What is it like to live in Tallinn? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Tallinn is a cool city.
It can be a bit extreme in winters but I still recommend it for people who are passionate about Eastern Europe and poor people with nouveau riche attitude and most of all have persistence to "suffer" with bad roads.
I personally have spend most of Novembers abroad and as far away from Tallinn as I can. But in general I love this city.
What is the student lifestyle like in Tallinn?
Life in Tallinn is usually calm, dusty, dark, but also very entertaining if you can take it easy.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Estonian traditional food is not too fascinating. But then again who really eats traditional food today if we can get Italian or Indian food. But the local black bread and dishes with cottage cheese are really good!
Food might also be quite expensive, even in supermarkets if you are a student. But all depends on the personal choices. You will find vegetarian and other special food easily, but it's more expensive again. And it's impossible to get tasty fruits in winter for example.
What places would you recommend visiting in Tallinn?
Kalamaja district, Kopli district, Lasnamäe district!
Most of the bars in Old Town or Telliskivi: August, Sveta bar, Pudel, Must Puudel, Tops, Paar Veini, Frank, Nagana, Self etc..

Yes, it is.

- Burgebox of Noodlebox for low budget Asian tastes.
- Energia kohvik or Narva kohvik (cafe) for Soviet delights.
Is the nightlife good in Tallinn? Where is good to go?
It's heavy, really, but complicated.
Estonians usually prefer drinking in bars than dancing and they do not mix easily with foreigners. But make an effort and change it!
What advice would you give future students heading to Tallinn?
First of all forget politics and boring small talk. Be honest and know where you are going. But you should definitely try it out for yourself.
