What is it like to live in Tallinn? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Living in Tallinn, like in many other cities, depends largely in which part of the city one lives. Overall, it's a great place for a student to live: it's rather cheap compared to other capitals in Europe, international students, many great cafés-restaurants.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

You can find any type of food in Tallinn: local dishes, but of course also Italian, Indian, Japanese etc cuisines are represented and there are more and more vegan/vegetarian places also.

Is it good to eat out in Tallinn? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Tallinn offers a variety of possibilities: you can find posh restaurants, cool street food markets, cheap but tasty burger booths, cosy cafés etc. Many popular (but not too touristy) places are situated in Telliskivi or near old town. Balti Jaama Turg offers its visitors a possibility to walk through many different food booths (ex noodles/vegburger/pasta/ramen etc) and choose whatever they desire.

One of my favorites in old town is Rataskaevu16, a bit more expensive but nothing over the top, offers local cuisine with their own twist and has probably the best service in town; nearby are also Von Krahl (super chill, great food) and Kompressor (pancakes!). Large variety of tasty cakes can be found in Gustav (although the place itself is inside an entertainment mall which isn't perhaps the best location) and great bakeries in Röst. For foreign tastes Elevant for Indian, Tokumaru for Japanese, Kaja and Jahu are fighting for the best pizza place title. Popular choices to go for coffee (since there's no Starbucks in Estonia) are Caffeine and Reval Cafe.
