Erasmus Experience in Tallinn, Estonia by Palwasha
Why did you choose to go to Tallinn, Estonia?
A friend of mine recommended it to me and also because of its high-quality education system.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
Two years. I've received financial aid to pay my tuition fee and a monthly stipend of €300 to pay my rent and cover my own expenses.
What is the student lifestyle like in Tallinn?
Good and interesting, but I don't attend as many outdoor activities or amusing events as I'd like to because I don't consume alcohol, nor beer.
Would you recommend the city and Tallinn University to other students?
Yes, I've already recommended it to my colleagues and friends.
What is the food like?
Great. I like salmon with cheese the most.
Was it difficult to find your accommodation in Tallinn?
Yes. I guess it's expensive for a student to pay the estate agency fee and a month's rent in advance.
How much does it cost to live in Tallinn?
I usually pay €500-600 a month, but if my daughter comes to live with me next year, expenses may increase.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
No. And yes, I guess we have language courses at University.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Tallinn from your city?
By plane, I guess.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Tallinn?
Old town.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Tallinn?
Turkish restaurants.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
I don't know.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Tallinn in the future?
Get ready for the winter, and be patient and happy.
