Erasmus Experience in Tallinn, Estonia by Çağatay

Why did you choose to go to Tallinn, Estonia?

Because it’s my first time being in another country. I wanted to go to a small and relaxed city. Estonia is quite small and peaceful and Tallinn is really lovely.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I don’t have scholarship.

What is the student lifestyle like in Tallinn?

It’s good. Erasmus students usually go to clubs for fun. There not that much option for fun. Bars, clubs and sometimes travelling. Estonia has a beautiful nature.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Tallinn to other students?

Yes I recommend Tallinn. City is really nice. I’m studying at Tallinn University of Applied Sciences. It’s a small university and not that much funny.

What is the food like?

Food is good in city. But I prefer to cook myself at home. Prices are okay except the fish and red meat (beef). But if you want to go out you can find some good places to eat.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Tallinn?

I’m staying in a dorm and paying 70 euro + utilities. But in a shared room. My dorm is Siidisaba 7 and it’s really boring.

How much does it cost to live in Tallinn?

If you living in a cheap dorm like me it will cost 500-600 euro per month. But you can only drink well at Wednesdays.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

At the first week we came to Tallinn we had a short Estonian language course. It’s not so easy to learn and most of the people can speak English. So no need to learn it.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Tallinn from your city?

By plane.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Tallinn?

Club Münt, Club Hollywood, Labor bar, Club Venus, Club Theatre and of course, Club Studio. On Wednesdays main drinks are only 1 euro in Club Münt. Others are. It that cheap. Best club is Hollywood.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Tallinn?

Antalya is a really good restaurant. It’s in Kristiine and not so close to city center. But you should try it.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Tallinn in the future?

Tallinn is small but lovely city. Streets are really peaceful and safe. You can join to events of ESN and enjoy the night life. But I recommend you to rent a room in an apartment.
