Erasmus Experience in Stuttgart, Germany by Pooja
Why did you choose to go to Stuttgart, Germany?
I came to Stuttgart to pursue my internship with Daimler for 6 months.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
You should usually be able to live in about 700 euros if you stay in the student housing and go out quite a bit, and if you would really like to live it and travel maybe once a month, about 950 euros should be fine. But there are also students who manage their expenses in only merely 450 euros per month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Stuttgart?
From the living costs it is pretty evident that Stuttgart can offer you a wide variety of lifestyles. The student accommodation is pretty comfortable in the Universities. Specially in summers it is very happening because of all the fests going on in the Campus and it gives you a beautiful feeling.
There is plenty for eating out and partying. There are student entry prices for almost all the parties and clubs. Very good eateries and cafés in the city centre or Stadt mitte and also mostly all over Stuttgart. You will find Major supermarkets at most of the big stations in Stuttgart.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Stuttgart to other students?
I would definitely recommend Stuttgart. It is the perfect combination for sports, nature, party and food lovers. This city has so much to offer and it is sure to make your student experience memorable.
What is the food like?
There is a wide variety in food in Stuttgart. You can find all kinds of restaurants in all kinds of prices. You can get typical German food in many cafés and restaurants but also Turkish, Mexican, Italian, Indian among many other cuisines. You would not want to miss out on the food here.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Stuttgart?
It is pretty hard to find accommodation in Stuttgart so make sure you start looking early. Usually in the University, you may get an accommodation for a period of three months (Zwichenmiete) if you are lucky, but there are also plenty of options on WG gesucht and other web sites. Because Stuttgart attracts so many students every year, you'll need to hurry with your hunt!
How much does it cost to live in Stuttgart?
As I mentioned before as well. You should usually be able to live in about 700 euros if you stay in the student housing and go out quite a bit, and if you would really like to live it and travel maybe once a month, about 950 euros should be fine. But there are also students who manage their expenses in only merely 450 euros per month.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
The language does take time to learn of course, but the more you speak it, the better you get. There are courses offered by the University and private institutes as well. Most of the people in Stuttgart can speak English. But of course, learning German is always an advantage in Germany.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Stuttgart from your city?
If you book early, then the Deutsch Bahn is an economical and convenient option. Else, there are also Flix Buses within Europe. May be also cheap flights deals depending on the city you are travelling from.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Stuttgart?
Stuttgart is completely safe as far as I have experienced. Till about 1 am on weekdays and 3 am on weekends should not harm at all.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Stuttgart?
There are plenty in the city centre, depending on your taste there is something for everyone.
My favorites are Weber Café, Sushi Circle and Weltcafe which gives you a completely different feeling.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, The Mercedes-Benz Museum, Schlossplatz (also plenty of shopping options here), Neues Schloss and Altes Schloss, Schloss Solitude among many other places.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Stuttgart in the future?
Just live your life there because there is so much Stuttgart has to offer.
