Erasmus Experience in Stockholm, Sweden. By Raquel

Why did you choose to go to Stockholm, Sweden?

Because it's a completely different country to mine, and because it's got an excellent teaching system.

How long does the grant last? How much money do you get for help?

I got only €1000 (divided amongst the months).

What's the student environment like in Stockholm?

Quite good! Stockholm is a city with many students.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Stockholm to other students?

Yes, totally. It's an excellent university.

How's the country's food?

Personally, I wasn't a big fan of the Swedish food. But since it's an enormous city, you can easily find any type of food.

How easily did you find accommodation in Stockholm?

It's extremely difficult to arrange accommodation. I would recommend that you start looking quite far in advance, since the universities only provide accommodation to a little more than half of the enrolled students.

On average, how much did you spend living in Stockholm?

Not including accommodation, around €500 per month.

What's the language like? Did you attend a language course at the university?

Swedish is quite difficult. But this isn't an obstacle because everyone speaks fluent English.

The university provides open (and free) Swedish classes

What is the cheapest way to get to Stockholm from your city?

Plane, Ryanair.

Where would you recommend for a night out in Stockholm?

Sodermalm.

And eating out in Stockholm? Can you name your favourite places?

It's easy to find good places to eat in Stockholm (although they are quite expensive). My favourite restaurants are Italian ones, and there are loads of them in the old part of the city (Gamla Stan).

And in terms of cultural visits?

It's spectacular! Stockholm is full of museums, theatres, cinemas, operas, art... for all tastes!

Do you have any advice you'd like to give future students in Stockholm?

No, just come to Stockholm! But come wrapped up for the winter!
