Erasmus Experience in Stockholm, Sweden by Meritxell

Why did you choose to go to Stockholm, Sweden?

Because only the Northern Coutries recognized a specialization I needed for my degree, and out of these, Stockholm was the only capital city that had an agreement with my home university

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

5 months/ 1.050€

What is the student lifestyle like in Stockholm?

Stockholm is not very good for partying (not many clubs) but the University has a club which opens many times a week, and it's great because the people you meet there are always students. It is an expensive country, so sometimes you need to be careful otherwise you end up spending so much. With my group of friends we have got used to do "home parties", and we have dinner and then go for a beer or to party in the Uni. A part from that, it's great that Stockholm has many free museums, and the landscape is great. Moreover, you can do a lot of trips from there, as it's well connected with other European capital citites (I recommend specially to take cruisers to Helsinki, Riga, Tallinn... they're so cheap and fun! Only for 16€ you have all the transport and accommodation covered (you sleep in the boat)).

Would you recommend the city and the University of Stockholm to other students?

Yes!

What is the food like?

You can find all types of food. If you want to get deeper with the Swedish culture you need to try the meatballs and the fish. Moreover they have pastries which are great! (specially kannelbulle). They like pastries with cinnamon and zafran (during Christmas period).

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Stockholm?

Yes

How much does it cost to live in Stockholm?

The price to live in the city is no less than 400€/month (without food included). Anyway, it's difficult to find something from 400€. I would say the average price is 500-600€/month.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Yes! Swedes are really good in talking in English. In fact, all the city is ready to speak English. You can easily communicate with everybody.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Stockholm from your city?

Plane

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Stockholm?

Cafe Bojan (Stockholm University pub)

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Stockholm?

Honey Honey (it is next to Medborgsplatsen metro stop). So good and cheap! With Swedish food!

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Vasa Museum, Skansen, Gamla Stan, ABBA Museum

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Stockholm in the future?

Take the chance to do a trip to Landpland (the north of Sweden). The artic circle is so stunnishing!!!
