Why did you choose to go to Stockholm, Sweden?

I did not know anything about Scandinavia, so I chose to go to the biggest city in order to have even more possibilities to enjoy my Erasmus.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I get 500€ each month for 10 months and I am supposed to receive 2000€ as an Erasmus grant, but I just got for the moment half of it then the rest will be sent at the end of my Erasmus year.

What is the student lifestyle like in Stockholm?

Not so much class, but a lot to read. A lot of parties also. Events each week: boat trips, visit of some islands, ice-skating, ski... Never bored! But money is needed.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Stockholm to other students?

Definitely.

What is the food like?

It is ok, easy to find fresh food and there is a large choice of meal if you're lucky enough to live next to a big grocery shop. Otherwise in some places like ICA prices can really be expensive.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Stockholm?

No I applied to the lottery organized by the Uni.

How much does it cost to live in Stockholm?

Too much. I have 500€ per month without paying my rent and I really feel at the end of the month that it would be so much easier to have more.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available in the University?

I don't get a word in Swedish. But all Swedish people speak English without any problem.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Stockholm from your city?

By plane.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Stockholm?

  • Under Bron, a club, electronic music, on Friday (otherwise you have to be more than 23).
  • Berns, a club, electronic music, on Thursday (otherwise you have to be more than 23).
  • Fasching, a jazz club, there is an open stage every Monday evening and it's free to get in.
  • Brooklin Bar or Debaser Strand for more Rock or Hip Hop music.
  • Marie Laveau, a club with good music;
  • Bara Enkelt for cheap beers.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Stockholm?

  • Pelikan is a nice brasserie where you can find Swedish meals for good prices;
  • Herman's, the best veggie restaurant ever, discounts for students;
  • Cafe String for a super nice fika, good prices and lovely atmosphere

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Definitely the national park: Tyresta.

I just recommend to walk in the city, it is really not big and you can easily discover it by yourself.

Is there any other advice that you could give to future students who are going to Stockholm?

Do as much as you can do, see as much as you can see!

And do not think that Swedish people are cold or shy, as soon as you meet them they are the craziest person ever.
