The cutiest town in Austria

Published by flag- Nika Logvinova — 9 years ago

I have visited my friend this year in Steyr, Austria. She mentioned that I am going to see the cutiest and the loveliest town not only in Austria but also in the whole Europe. As being a permanent traveller, I was pretty sceptical and couldn't believe her at first.

Steyr is located quite far from the capital of Austria, Vienna. You have to take two trains, which take about 2 hours in total. It is, however, not so far from Salzburg (30 minutes), Hallstatt (1 hour) and Germany (about 2 hours). The time I arrived there, I was amazed how typically-Austrian it looks like. There are no tall houses, everything is small: buildings, bridges, streets.. Small and cute, indeed. I was amazed to see how much water they have: my friend said there are around 30 (!) bridges in Steyr. It is extremely big number for the town with the population of a bit less than fifty thousand people. We spent the whole day walking around, enjoying the view of the mountains and the rivers. Rivers bring some challenges to the city. It is already 5 times for the period of half a year since I hear about floods in Steyr. People are used to that, exchange students are, however, a bit nervous every time they hear about it.

So, what to see in Steyr exactly? You can go inside the church which you can see on the picture, it is quite old and has a nice exterior. What is more, you can go on the top and enjoy the view on the main river and the mountains. Steyr is a perfect place for walking and thinking.

Steyr has everything you need: shops, bars, student parties, Erasmus parties, fairs and exhibitions. After the party, during the night, there is a nice bakery on the main street which served fresh bakery for hungry drunk people :)

Talking about the University, it is considered to be one of the best in Austria. It has a lot of exchange and regular international students so there are a lot of fun activities and events.

I highly recommend visiting Steyr, it shows how typically-cute Austrian town looks like.
