Why did you choose to go to Split, Croatia?

I choose Split because of the sea. And beautiful weather. And honestly, because Dalmatia (region in which this city is) has a reputation of "taking everything easy".

What is the student lifestyle like in Split?

I love the lifestyle. I love everything about it. If you are more sporty type of person, there are a lot of gym clubs that you can join. And they usually have lower prices for students. But just to warn you, you are gonna get lazy... So, when you finally admit it to yourself that you became the part of this lazy community, you can still do some sport on Marjan hill. It is awesome, you can see the whole city, and the sea is beautiful.

Other than that, all Erasmus students like to hang out every day on the beach or in the coffee shops in the city centre. At evenings, they would go to one common spot in the beach and they would just chill, drink a little bit, some students would bring their guitar and play and sing.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Split to other students?

Yes, definitely. It is cheap, weather is nice, city is not too big, but still big enough that something is always going on. And the University is also okay, professors know english language better than me, and they are really kind. Only thing I REALLY REALLY HATE, i'm on the Faculty of Economics and I have to attend at least 80% of classes, otherwise I cannot pass the exam. They collect our signature at every class. But I don't know if it is the same on other faculties or not.

What is the food like?

I love traditional Balkan food and mediteran food. So for me, food is perfect. You can find these little fast food stands at every corner. I prefer restaurants, but since I don't really feel like spending money on food, I usually go with other students in Students restaurants. You can get a proper, nice meal for approximately 1€. The most I paid was 2€, and I got soup, main dish, salad, fruits, water and dessert.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Split?

I applied for Erasmus Buddy from ESN Split, and I have to say, either I was very lucky, or these people are all veeeery friendly. I was looking for apartment together with two other girls (that I met on this website), and Erasmus Buddy of one of the girls found us an apartment. It was all his job, and he contacted the landlady and everything.

How much does it cost to live in Split?

Apartments for three people usually costs between 400-600€, if you want normal apartment. For more luxurios, you would have to pay more. And food and all other stuff are pretty cheap. Coffe in the coffe shop costs about 1€. Beer in a bar is around 2, 5€.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Language is not that easy, but usually people understand English. Not old people, but everybody else. And at the Faculty of philosophy you can attend croatian language courses.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Split from your city?

I came to Split with car. But I live in Slovenia, and it's the next country. Other people came either by bus or plane.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Split?

During the season, a lot of clubs are open at the beach (Bacvice beach). During winter, people usually go to the Central club (which is in the city center).
