Sparta
Finally ... THIS. IS. SPARTAAAA! Yes, we arrived in this former military centre of Greece which played an extremely important role during the Persian invasions. Lykourgos counts as a famous commander, and also the rigorous physical education is still famous, as many movies and spin-off games show.
However, Sparta was never a huge metropolis such as Athens, so the agora is comparatively small.
The gymnasion did its job but was not huge either ... what a miracle that they could muster so much military strength with such limited means!
Actually, they also had a theatre ... just so you don't think they were all rude.
It was a bit sobering to see Sparta as the simple place that it was, but it was still an inspiring experience to see exactly the famous place whose qualities have been transmitted up until our times. And on we went ...
