My favourite language ever: Spanish!

Introduction to the post.

My favourite language!

Dearest friends and readers, today I decided to write a post about my favourite language! Despite the fact that I'm Italian and I really love my mother tongue, I can't help saying that Spanish Language is the one I love the most! Maybe because, broadly speaking, I am interested in this fantastic language?! I don't know! However, every time I hear someone speaking in Spanish, I start smiling, without a reason why!

Why did I decide to talk about Spanish language?

Spanish language, my dear friends, is one of the most spoken languages in the world after English, Chinese, Indian etc. Above all, it's used in Latin America, where, as you know, population is much bigger than Italian or German ones!

General information.

What's Spanish grammar like?

Spanish grammar is very similar to Italian, Catalan (with which it melts) and French ones! However, there are some sentences' structures very different from Italian and Catalan Language, even if they're similar.

Does a lot of people speak Spanish?

I dare say so! Just think about all the students, like me, who decide to go to Spain for Erasmus programmes, despite their nationalities!

The different variants of Spanish language! =)

Are we really sure that Spanish language doesn't change crossing Ocean's borders? Of course it does! Besides, to tell the truth, it seems that every country have developed a different and characteristic accent (for example in Paraguay, Argentina and Columbia), without changing the real and authentic Spanish paradigm!

Which is the difference between Castilian and Spanish Language?! =D

That's a great question! The answer is not so great actually! You have to know that proper "Spanish" is not the one spoken in Spain, but actually in Latin America! That's so weirs, isn't it?! Yet it's true! On the contrary, Spanish language spoken in Spain is called Castilian! So I have to remember to tell people that I'm now able to speak Castilian and not Spanish, but just for now!; )

My personal experience

How did I learn Spanish language?

Let's start from the beginning. I attended some classes of SPanish language as an extracurricular activity for two years, during high school. However, I never practised Spanish during the following year and so I forgot all I had learned in those classes! =(

Nevertheless, I always loved Caribbean dances and this passion showed me I could understand a little bit the lyrics of the songs I used to dance!

Yet, if I have to say where I really learned Castilian language, well, definitely it was during an exchange period in Barcelona for more than 5 months!

What are my favourite Spanish expressions?

This time too I'm making a short list:

- I just adore when Spanish people say " ¡Ay, perdón! "! It's not a simple way to beg pardon, but they're showing real regret!;

- secondly, I do really love when they say " ¡Venga! ", just as a kind of encouragement in any situation!;

- " ¿¡Qué dices?! " is an expression very close to one very used in my hometown, Cosenza, o sea "Ma cosa stai dicendo?! " pero en dialecto;

- finally, there's " ¡Adiós! ". At the beginning I didn't like this word because it is used with the meaning "Goodbye! ". Yet, as time went by, it became one of the most favourite words in my little big Spanish vocabulary! =)

Conclusions

After all I feel that being able to speak Spanish in an informal way is something that mes me very happy!
