Why did you choose to go to Southampton, United Kingdom?
I choose to go to Southampton because I wanted to go to an English country and my university had a link with Southampton University.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I didn't receive any scolarship or any help for my living costs.
What is the student lifestyle like in Southampton?
They have less course hours than in France. The library is opened at largest hours. They have places to meet people on the campus, like in the cinema, the stags (the student pub), etc.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Southampton to other students?
The university is really beautiful, rich, cleaned and we can find all that we need in the city. However, the landscape is not the prettiest and the tourism inside the city is not developed. Nevertheless, the city is well situated.
What is the food like?
The food is ok.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Southampton?
No, I found my accomodation on the Internet and I just pay my rent and my bills and I gave a deposit.
How much does it cost to live in Southampton?
My rent and my bills cost 340 euro per month and my food towards 200.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
I quickly progressed in English. There are courses available at the University but I don't want to participate.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Southampton from your city?
It's easier and more economical to take the Eurostar and the bus to come here from my city if you book your tickets in advance.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Southampton?
I would recommend to drink a glass in a bar of the Bedford place and after to go to Switch, a night club in the city center.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Southampton?
They are lots of international restaurants... I just ate in "Bella Italia" and fast foods. I don't really know typical restaurants here... There is no "fish and chips" in the city center.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
There are London, Oxford, New Forest, Bristol, Winchester, Salisbury and Stonehenge, Brighton and the Isle of Wight closed to Southampton which are good cultural sites.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Southampton in the future?
Be opened.
