Lion Park in Johannesburg, South Africa
Everyone was talking about this Lion park. They were bringing pictures of lion cubs, cheetah, giraffes and similar and I was just jealous about their photos wishing I was there myself.
So I managed to get the flight to Johannesburg which was quite busy and sightseeingwise it did not have much to offer. It is not quite safe for a girl to wander around even at a daytime, so I was mainly sticking around the hotel trying to find a supermarket to stock up on some nice, fresh groceries. The next day we were supposed to wake up early and head to the Lion park and I was really excited. My first time holding little lion cubs.
We arrived there around 8am, and there was already a queue. We managed to get our tickets and got in. First was the session with the lion cubs. Even though they are small, they will still scratch you so they were advising us to wear long sleeves in spite of the heat. The little ones were chilling on a rock in their cage. We caught the other group, though, in the middle of their play or maybe fight, who would know.
The next stop was the cheetah session. She was also there, chilling, did not care at all about visitors. She did enjoy our cuddles, though.
At last giraffes and big lions! This was not a joke. We boarded a caged truck and went into the wilderness. The lions were mostly in the shade and the giraffes were strolling freely. She got a bit curious and she approached us in the truck and took the food from some of the colleagues.
I did not dare to do that, so I was just waiting for the giraffe feeding in the other place, more supervised, just in case. Once we did that, an ostridge, named Kelly joined the food party as well.
This was a really good trip and I enjoyed my time there, so did my colleagues. I decided my next stop in South Africa would definitely be Cape Town, another jewel that needed to be discovered from my side and I was longing for it for such a long time.
