Experience in Sofia, Bulgaria by Morgan
What was it like to live in Sofia? Do you recommend it? What's the town like?
It's a really easy place to live; transport is cheap, including taxis. It's a safe town with an excellent university. There's a French community and a lot of people speak English.
How is it for students?
There are lots of parks and it is 100% a student town in the Studentski Grad neighbourhood.
Studentski Grad
What is the cost of living in Sofia?
200-300 euros/month (including rent).
Is it difficult to find a place to live in Sofia? Do you have any tips regarding housing?
For a short stay it's hard to say, but there are lots of student rentals (Studentski Grad, Lozonets... ).
How's the food in Sofia? What are your favourite dishes?
I'm French and I loved all the traditional food.
My favourite is Tarator soup: yoghurt, cucumber, water and salt.
Which sights do you recommend visiting in Sofia?
The town centre, the churches and cathedrals, the many parks and the shopping centre. I also recommend Vitosha Mountain, 2500 metres tall, just on the outskirts of Sofia.

And eating out in Sofia? Could you tell us your favourite places to eat out?
On Vitosha Mountain, 'L'instant' (French cuisine for two for 50 euros).
Where do you recommend going out in Sofia?
The perfect nightlife in an Eastern European country. There were many festivals during my stay (April-June).
Do you want to give any further advice to future Erasmus students in Sofia?
Make the most of it, take the subway, taxis, get some fresh air up the mountain. Look out for adventurous excursions in Bulgaria for a super-competitive price.
