Why did you choose to go to Sofia, Bulgaria?

Because of the fact that I come from a western Europe, I wanted to see something different that's why I chose eastern Europe. Bulgaria seemed like a country rich in history and with a beautiful landscape.

What is the student lifestyle like in Sofia?

It's like in any other big European city I guess.

There is a district in the city called Studenski grad where most of the local students live, you can live the 'typical' student life there with lots of parties but the accommodation there is very poor.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Sofia to other students?

I really enjoyed my time in Sofia, so definitely yes.

What is the food like?

It is affordable and tasty, you can try Bulgarian food or stick to what you know from home, there are all kinds of food stores and restaurants.

How much does it cost to live in Sofia?

It depends totally on your lifestyle, in general it's cheaper than western Europe.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Learning the language is not easy at all but everybody here is happy to hear you trying to speak some Bulgarian words.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Sofia from your city?

By aeroplane.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Sofia?

There are lots of nice places, come and find out for yourself.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Vitosha mountain is located next to the city and definitely worth visiting. In summer for the amazing views over the city and some relaxing walks or in winter for skiing.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Sofia in the future?

If you have the choice between Boza and Ayran for breakfast always stick to Ayran.
