Experience in Sofia, Bulgaria by Leonardo
What is it like to live in Sofia? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
The city is very beautiful and it takes you back to the Communist times. It is as if it were stuck in time. People are very shy but kind when you start speaking with them.
What is the student lifestyle like in Sofia?
I do not know since I am not a student anymore. Just moved here to work.
How much does it cost to live in Sofia?
500 euros a month, including housing.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Sofia? Is there any advice you can give?
No, it is not very difficult. My only advice is to look for a place near the City Center. Transportation can get irregular at times, so it is better to stay close to the main points of the city.
What is the food like? What are your favorite dishes?
There is a lot of cheap food everywhere, with stands of different Bulgarian and another kind of food. Chicken is very good in here.
What places would you recommend visiting in Sofia?
All the museums, the churches and the parks. The parks are just amazing.
Is it good to eat out in Sofia? Can you tell us your favorite spots?
Pretty much everywhere, if you are willing to spend around 10 leva, you will have a great meal.
Is the nightlife good in Sofia? Where is good to go?
To the pubs and sports bars and terraces in the city center. Cheap and nice places.
What advice would you give future students heading to Sofia?
Study some Bulgarian phrases because it is really hard to find people who speak English, besides the food stands and tourist places. German also comes handy.
