What is it like to live in Sofia? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria and so you could expect a lot of activity, cultural events and influx of people in the city. A great variety of things you could do: lot of parks to visit, nice coffee shops but also theaters, museums and opera. If you'd love a good hike and nature, you could also go to mountain 'Vitosha' which is about half an hour from the city center.

What is the student lifestyle like in Sofia?

Student life could be busy at times, around exams session for example, but because of the different kinds of people you could meet and the activities you could choose from, you could make you stay very enjoyable indeed.

How much does it cost to live in Sofia?

It depends on your lifestyle and whether you choose private housing or university dormitories. On average between 250 - 400 €.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Sofia? Is there any advice you can give?

Not very difficult to find a place since it is a big city.

Usually there are informal advertisements around or inside universities so it's a good idea to be on the lookout for them.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

You could find tradition dishes in restaurants as well as international cuisine.

Is it good to eat out in Sofia? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

If you are on tight budget eating out might prove to be a bit more expensive but Sofia and Bulgaria in general is much cheaper than other European capitals.

A good and fairly cheap place to eat is a restaurant called "Oshipka" which you could find near the Sofia University.

Is the nightlife good in Sofia? Where is good to go?

Lots of bars, discos, night clubs to choose from.

What advice would you give future students heading to Sofia?

Don't be afraid to visit the country, even if it's unknown to you or you don't speak any Slavic languages. You will be able to enjoy a mix of traditional customs and modern entertainment. Bulgarian people are generally very friendly and famous for their hospitality.
