What is it like to live in Sofia? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
This city is the capital city of Bulgaria. Its currency is Lev - 1 EUR = 1. 95 BGN. The life here in Sofia is associatable and intractable irrespective of area come from, in terms of study and cost of leaving, it is the cheapest compared to other part of EU.
I recommend this city to any one who which to attend Erasmus program here. This city is approximately 1. 203 million people and it is well developped compared to other Bulgarian cities.

How much does it cost to live in Sofia?
The price of a monthly rent for a 85 m2 (900 Sqft) furnished apartment in expensive area of the city in Sofia is 927 лв and the price of utilities 1 month (heating, electricity, gas... ) for 2 people in 85m2 flat in Sofia is 199 лв . All the foreign students can stay in student dormitories. They are located all in Studentski grad nearby the Technical University of Sofia in which there are a lot of clothing and food shops and party places. To give the students an idea regarding living costs, there is a list of prices of daily products:
- Bus/metro single ticket-1. 00 lv
- Bus pass for a day-3. 00 lv
- Bus 10 single ticket-7. 00 lv
- Bottle of coke, sprite-1. 30 lv
- Coffee-1. 00 lv
- Slice of pizza-1. 50 lv
- Beer in a club/pub: Bulgarian (0. 33 l)-2. 00-3. 00 lv, other (0. 33 l)-3. 00-5. 00 lv (It depends on the place).
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Sofia? Is there any advice you can give?
Yes, it is my advice to upcoming scholars to Sofia to check online the list of available accommodation and also check the nearness of the place to the center of Sofia city, or get anagent contact to help you overcome the stress of accommodation in Sofia. But mind that each agent who found accommodation for you have their own commission of 50 percent of the rent.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
In Sofia there are varieties of food and drinks, for breakfast, lunch and dinner, there is always something to choose from.
My favorite food is Tarator and Banitsa.
What places would you recommend visiting in Sofia?
- Church of the Holy Seven,
- Fountains in Sofia,
- Public gardens and green areas,
- St. Sofia church - ancient Eastern Orthodox church in Sofia,
- St. Nikolay Russian church.
Is it good to eat out in Sofia? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Is the nightlife good in Sofia? Where is good to go?
Yes, There are a lot of party places all around Sofia especially in the area with most of the university students - Studentski grad. There are a lot of fancy clubs, pubs, live music, karaoke places, traditional and many more. Most of the discos are starting at about 10-11 pm and are closing 4-6 am. At the city centre there are also different and lots of clubs. Most of them are working through the whole week, offering different programs and discounts especially for university students in Studenstki grad. During winter common activities are night skiing in the nearby Vitosha mountain and also night ice-skating.
What advice would you give future students heading to Sofia?
Sofia as the capital city of Bulgaria comprises both the Good and the bad unlike other countries of the world, my advice to future student is carefulness, be mindful of the kind of person you are moving or associating with.
Always face your studies, because life is not all about the way you started but all the way you ended it. Thanks
