Erasmus Experience in Sligo, Ireland


Why did you choose to go to Sligo, Ireland?

Because my University has a partnership with the University of Sligo.

How long were you there for? How much do you receive to help you financially?

My stay lasted 9 months from September 2010 to May 2011. In total I received 900 euros bursary from the Erasmus programme and 500 euros from the regional council (Auvergne).

How did you find the student atmosphere in Sligo?

Amazing! It's really great!

Would you recommend the town and the university of Sligo to other students?

Yes, absolutely! It's a really nice place, it's got quite a few things to visit and activities close by (golf, surfing, a casino).

What's the food like in this country?

It's expensive! We managed to find everything but the prices are high in Ireland.

How did you find the accommodation?

I went to the tourist office, I asked the University and I visited several places.

What are the accommodation prices like? And prices in general?

It varies a lot according to the apartment and the area. There are flats for all budgets.

How do you find learning the language? Did you go to any courses run by the University?

Personally, I had an average level when I arrived and today I can live without any problems in an English-speaking country.

What's the cheapest way to get to Sligo from your town?

The airline Ryanair is the cheapest way to get to Dublin and then the bus to Sligo.

Which places would you recommend to go to for a night out?

  • The pubs: Shenanigans, McHughs and Garavogue.
  • Nightclubs: Pure, Clarence, Toffs and Velvet.

And what about eating in Sligo? Tell us about your favorite places.

Garavogue and Subway.

There's also a McDonald's 5 minutes away by car.

And which cultural visits would you recommend?

Me, I went on a tour of Connemara, Galway, Cliffs of Moher, Giants Causeway and the mountains close to Sligo.
