What is it like to live in Siena? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

To live a short experience in Siena is great! It is a small beautiful city where you can safely walk everywhere and at every time. The Art of the city is simply stunning as well as the landscape. Most part of the faculties are in the city center easily reachable by foot.

I would reccomend it for a 6 months erasmus.

What is the student lifestyle like in Siena?

Go to class, have your italian coffee at the University Bar for less than 1 euro, have lunch at the Canteen (good service), studying in the Library (the best is the Law School's one) go for an Aperitivo (meet life Café, Diacceto etc. )and then dancing and drinking in a bar (if cold) or just chilling out in the Piazza (if it's good weather).

How much does it cost to live in Siena?

Life in Siena is not cheap.

The cheapest Supermarket (and the biggest one ) is the COOP in the Grondaie street.

To go out there are many bars with special prices for Erasmus Students so always a way to don't pay too much to get "drunk".... drink with caution!

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Siena? Is there any advice you can give?

To find a room is not easy and prices are pretty high. for a single room in the city center you can easily be asked to pay 400 euros per month... you need to do well your search. I suggest to visit the uniaffitti webpage.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Very good. Try Tagliata con rucola (if you love meat), Ribollita (if you are vegetarian) and try PICI (if you love Pasta).

Typical sweets are Panforte, ricciarelli, cantuccini and Vin Santo (biscuit with sweet wine).

What places would you recommend visiting in Siena?

Museo Civico, Opera del Duomo, Torre del Mangia ( don't climb the tower before getting gratuated...it brings bad luck! )

Is it good to eat out in Siena? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

I like it.

Try "Osteria degli Svitati" in via della Galluzza good for pasta and starters, they have cheap Prices... Anyway almost everywhere you can eat well in Siena. Just avoid Touristic Places.

Is the nightlife good in Siena? Where is good to go?

Not really! but fortunately Erasmus People are very active and love partying so much that if there's not a party... they do it! The local Erasmus Association organizes often nice parties and outdoor visits.

What advice would you give future students heading to Siena?

Come and Enjoy the authentic Tuscan lifestyle! Good air, Arts, good Food and relax!

Ah Don't forget to study from time to time! Profs are not always so nice to the Erasmus students!
