Erasmus Sevilla, la experiencia más bonita de toda mi vida [ENG]
Hey!
I was in Seville for Erasmus in 2008/2009 for 11 wonderful months.
I will tell you a little in general about what I liked and what I did not like about Seville whilst commenting on the score I have given for each section.
The city will definitely not disappoint! The people here are very welcoming and will know how to help you if you need it! Everybody says that “Seville is the perfect city, the only thing missing is the sea” and this is in fact true. I can say that the 4 stars that I have given are in fact due to the absence of the sea, which actually is not too far away (roughly an hour by bus). The weather is really very good, from March to November you can go around in short sleeves, whilst the real winter lasts for about a month or two in which it usually never rains (even though I knew that the 2009/2010 were very unlucky in this).
In my opinion the best things about Seville are the culture and the traditions which remain nearly intact. The architectural style demonstrates the past Arabic occupation mixed with more recent Spanish influence. Flamenco was born in Andalusia and Seville is certainly one of the major epitomes, in fact you can find countless monuments, clubs, parties, festivals and even dance schools that promote it!
It will not be hard for Erasmus students to find parties arranged by the ESN-Seville organisation or clubs and bars that aid the entrance of foreign students with a free drink or shot. In addition, there is such a wide variety of venues offering different genres of music so that nobody, and I repeat nobody is left out! You can find from house to dance, from heavy metal to flamenco, from 80s rock to modern rock and many more.
Do you like meat and fish? Well then you find yourself in the perfect place! I have fallen in love with this part of Spanish cuisine. There are so many bars and restaurants that offer exquisite meat and fish specialities. The prices vary depending on the place and the quality of food, therefore you can eat peacefully for less than 10 euros! Amongst the specialities that I enjoyed the most I would suggest: revuelto, tostada jamón y aceite, solomillo al roquefort, patatas bravas, tortilla, ensaladilla, serranito.
¿Qué más? The prices are cheaper than Italy, even if recently they have been increased a little bit because of the crisis which is creating some problems. Public transports are very good for a relatively big city and easy to walk around (I would advise you to buy a bike, even second hand from the "mercadillo de los gitanos" on Sunday mornings). Crime is concentrated in the suburbs therefore there are no major problems in the centre even if it is not always prudent to go around alone at night time.
I hope that you have found this review useful and that it has helped whoever is going to Seville!
Do not think about it twice, Seville is the perfect city to visit and even for a foreign student who wants to go there for Erasmus just like I did!
P. S. please do not think that reading this review has ruined the surprise of discovering the city, there are lots of things of which I have not said anything about which are among the reasons why I can say today that Estoy enamorada de Sevilla!
