Erasmus Experience in Seville, Spain by Claire

Why did you choose to go to Seville, Spain?

Seville is a magnificent, dynamic and very student town. Culture is everywhere in this city.

I also want to be able to speak Spanish fluently.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I studied at a university in the city, my stay is for almost 9 months but I am thinking about staying for an extra month because I want to discover a bit more of the surrounding areas.

I receive the Erasmus Student bursary which is around 200 euros per month.

What is the student lifestyle like in Seville?

It is a really good atmosphere, the other Spanish students are really welcoming.

In addition, the Erasmus Students are really included in student initiatives (nights out and trips are organised).

Would you recommend the city and the University of Seville to other students?

Yes of course, especially the city. It is honestly the perfect city to do your Erasmus year or semester in.

I am a student at the Pablo de Olavide university. It is a giant campus which hosts around 11,000 students.

What do you think of the food?

There is a bit of everything, although I will admit that I miss certain French products a bit.

Many restaurants in the city centre are really good and welcoming.

Food in small restaurants generally isn't very expensive.

However, the supermarkets are similarly priced to France.

Was it difficult to find your accommodation in Lille?

No, many websites have accommodation options all over the city.

Be careful that they don't rip you off. Certain places have really high prices.

How much does it cost to live in Seville?

To me, it seems pretty much the same as it is in France. Even if certain things are slightly cheaper in Spain in general.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Did you attend a university language course?

I did private lessons with a language school outside of the university.

My university, or at least for my course, didn't offer Spanish lessons.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Seville from your city?

To get to Seville, I took the plane from Seville, even though I live quite far away from there.

However, I still think that going by plane is still the cheapest and fastest way to get to Seville.

In addition to that, Erasmus students have a card which gives us discounts with a certain airline.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Seville?

The city centre is really dynamic for going out.

The Alfalfa area is really well known for its bar in general, and tapas bars.

As for clubs, you will always find Hoyo in the city centre, a disco bar, and Uthopia, which is a massive nightclub across three floors, with a different room on each floor.

What's it like to eat out in Seville? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Always in the city centre. Certain restaurants are really good.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

In Seville, there is a huge amount of things to do in terms of culture.

The cathedral, as well as the old Jewish quarter of the city, Triana area or the Alcazar gardens.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Seville in the future?

This town is rich in every aspect. You really have to take advantage to visit it, learn the language, mix with locals, immerse yourself in Andalusian culture, do activities...
