Erasmus experience in Sevilla, Spain, by Thibault
Why did you decide to go to Seville, Spain
Seville was my third choice, I did not want to go to southern Spain for its climate and its way of life. I do not regret accepting going to Seville, however, since it's quite exotic (especially compared to the French region where I'm from).
How long are you staying in Seville? Are you getting any financial aid?
I'm staying one semester, so basically a bit under six months. The French government allows us to ask for funding from our regional government, our national government and the general council, this on top of the Erasmus funding we already receive.
What's the student life like in Seville?
There are lots of Erasmus student nights and several outings and nights out, which make the city very welcoming and friendly.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Seville to other students?
Definitely. If I could, I would even stay one full year.
How is the local food?
In Seville, there are lots of tapas bars, the Salmorejo is also greatly appreciated here, as well as the Iberico Ham.
Was it difficult to find housing in Seville?
Not at all, there was a bit of stress at the beginning but that's normal.
What's the cost of living in Seville?
It's relatively lower than in France. We can eat well for less than 5 euros, thus living more easily than in France.
How's it going with the language? Did you take language courses at the university?
The locals have a strong accent; some people appreciate it while others do not. I like it, and if you later travel in the rest of Spain, it'll all be easier to understand. I did not take any Spanish classes at the university, but many other students did.
What's the cheapest way to get to Seville from your city?
The plane is the cheapest and quickest method.
Where would you recommend going for Seville nightlife?
There's a lot of variety, preferences vary per person.
There's the Alameda, a big place, the Alfalfa, a spot that every student knows about, and there are also several nightclubs.
And where are your favourite places to eat?
There are many tapas bars, my favourite ones being Sacristia, los Coloniales, both near the cathedral.
What cultural visits would you recommend?
The Seville Cathedral, the Alcazar, the Plaza de España, the Plaza de America, a bunch of spots!
Do you have any advice for future students coming to Seville?
Enjoy and live it to the max. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
