Erasmus experience in Sevilla, Spain, by Mauro

Why did you decide to go to Seville, Spain?

It seemed an enchanting city, the best among the possible options offered at my university.

How long did you stay? How much scholarship money did you receive?

The length of one's stay always depends on the preexisting contract with their home university. In my case, it was supposed to last one semester, however I asked for an extension, which was granted. I received a scholarship of 230 euros per month.

What's the student life like in Seville?

The student life in Seville is very similar to the student life in Italy. I would define it as an excellent environment in regards to my experience.

Would you recommend the city and your university in Seville to other students?

Yes, Seville is the best possible city for Erasmus, if I had to choose again, I would make the same decision and return to Seville.

How is the local food?

The food is delicious, especially the tapas, that are good and cheap.

Was it difficult finding housing in Seville?

I was lucky enough to find housing before even leaving Italy, via an advertisement I saw on Erasmusu.

How much does it cost to live in Seville?

In general it's cheaper than living in Italy, a lot less expensive than Milan. The price of a single room varies from circa 160 euros to a maximum of 350 euros for the best housing in the most central locations. In my case, I paid 210 euros, in a very comfortable location, a few minutes from a metro station. The cost of living is very low in comparison to Italy, especially for students.

How's it going with the local language? Did you take any courses at the university?

I did not take any language course, and upon my arrival I spoke barely any Spanish. I can affirm, however, that in two months I managed to get to the point where I was able to understand almost everything, and I could express myself pretty well too.

What's the cheapest way to get to Seville from your city?

In my case, leaving from Milan, the cheapest method was a low-cost flight leaving from Milan's Orio al Serio airport.

Where would you recommend going out in Seville at night?

There are several good spots, I would recommend areas such as Alfalfa, Alameda de Hercules and Calle Betis.

And what are your favourite restaurants?

There are so many restaurants to choose from and they're all quite cheap. Consider these two taverns: "Los Coloniales" and Idilliache.

And what cultural visits would you recommend?

The entire city centre is very special. There are gardens, green spaces, small streets, alleys and the riverside. This city has everything and more to offer.

Any advice for future students going to Seville?

Go all in guys, go all in! It's one of the best cities in the world for Erasmus, but also in general. On your first day, go out at night, lose yourselves and fall in love with the city. You'll see when you get back home and you've had to leave Seville behind, that you'll also have left a part of yourself behind in that beautiful city.
