Erasmus Experience in Sevilla, Spain by Giuliana

Why did you decide to go to Seville, Spain?

I chose Seville because "He who hasn't seen Seville has never seen true wonder. "

How long did your exchange last? How must money did you receive as financial support?

Unfortunately my exchange only lasts six months. The scholarship is very little: 200 euros per month only for four months. I would not even have been able to go on exchange had it not been for some assistance from my parents. Unfortunately without some support it's very difficult to do an Erasmus exchange. What a contradiction!

What is the student atmosphere like in Seville?

It really depends on how many courses you need to take. There are some Erasmus students who hardly ever go to class and who just enjoy life and others who have lots of work to do. Regardless, this doesn't stop them from having fun! There are always things for students to do and so many initiatives!

How is the local food?

In general we eat very well! I come from Italy so I can't not make the link between our foods (and the outcome is evident! ). The tapas are definitely worthwhile! There are so many different varieties that appeal to every taste! And let us not forget about the beer! We almost solely drink Cruzcampo, but I find it fresh and light and really "barata" (we can find some for 40 cents for 33cc)! So don't forget to order a "cervecita" with your tapas!

Was it difficult to find housing in Seville?

It isn't that easy! More than anything it's difficult for those who don't want to settle down. However there are many good deals available.

How much does it cost to live in Seville?

I live near my university in Reina Mercedes and so it takes me more or less 15 minutes to bike into the center. I pay 200 euros per month for a single room which includes internet and housing. Life is generally not expensive for us Italians. Let's say that with 500 euros (all included) we can live very comfortably.

How is it going with the local language? Did you take some language courses at the university?

Spanish is very easy to understand, but this really depends on the country you come from! The Sevillians are extremely nice people and they always try to understand you without formalizing too much.

The courses are mainly taught in Spanish, but some are also available in English (however I don't really recommend taking classes in English... it's always better immersing yourself in the local language).

What is the cheapest method for you to get to Seville from your city?

Ryanair!
