Studying in Santiago de Compostela
What is it like living in Santiago de Compostela? Do you have any recommendations? What are they?
Santiago is an incredible city to study in, I totally recommend it. It's somewhat small so it's easy to find whatever you are looking for.
How is the student atmosphere in Santiago de Compostela?
During the week there are always students everywhere. The bad thing is, at the weekends the place is almost deserted, there are few students who stay. The majority of them go to their homes in other parts of Galicia. During the night there is almost always activity, especially in the old town and on Thursdays. It's always posible to find someone who wants to go for a walk around town.
How much does it cost to live in Santiago de Compostela?
Santiago de Compostela is not an expensive city to live in and if you share an apartment it will be even cheaper. It cost me 180€/month including electricity and water. Clothing is the same in other parts of Spain and the food is pretty cheap in some bars and restaurants. Many faculties prepare cheap dishes daily for students as well (3€-4€).
Was is difficult to find a place to live in Santiago de Compostela? Do you have any advice?
As the city is mostly students, there are hundreds of apartments to rent, sometimes even at the last minute. Many students find apartments in the urban area, where everything is affordable. If you´re worried about finding a roommate, there is a page on the university website to post adverts or find people who are looking for roommates.
You can also live in halls, there are quite a few.
How is the food of the country? What are some of your favourite dishes?
Galician food is amazing and comparable with the rest of Spain. Here you'll find just about everything: stew, zorza, octopus, peppers from Padrón, empanada, tortilla, wine, and a lot of fish and seafood. There are also other Spanish dishes like paella, gazpacho, fabada, etc, that you must try.
What places do you recommend visiting in Santiago de Compostela?
The Cathedral and Poplar Grove.
For eating in Santiago de Compostela, can you name your favorite places?
In Santiago there are a lots of places where you order a drink and it will come with tapas. Some places I like are: Abrente, Gambrinos, bar Coruña, Casa Manolo, María Castaña, 100 Montaditos.... never in the first few streets in old town like Rúa do Franco because you will pay a lot for four calamares.

- D3
- Momo
- Blaster
- La edad de hielo
- Retablo
- Ruta
