Experience in Santiago de Compostela, Spain by Lúa
What is it like to live in Santiago de Compostela? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Santiago de Compostela is a small city but full of life although the weather is not the best of Spain (if what you want is a sunny year, don't come to Santiago)!
For sure, I would recommend to live there!!
The city has a modern area that is not so big. There you can find almost everything you could need. In the city centre is the old town...you would be lucky if you have to walk passing by it to go to the University because it's a really pictoresque zone!
What is the student lifestyle like in Santiago de Compostela?
If you know how to look for you would have a lot of options of things to do! Since going to the theatre to going clubbing! I feel the best thing about Santiago is that you have very variety of plans, I mean, It's a city that has places where you can listen to traditional music and other in which modern music is played.
How much does it cost to live in Santiago de Compostela?
It's a cheap city because is located in one of the cheapest places of Spain. Flats are rent for 170-200€. Meals in the University are about 5€ and in restaurants you can find dishes for 6€.
You can go to many exhibitions for free.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Santiago de Compostela? Is there any advice you can give?
I don't think so. A lot of people advert on Facebook that they are looking for flatmates, so you can try to live with Galician people and this way you would have to talk everything in Galician or Spanish.
Is it good to eat out in Santiago de Compostela? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
There are a lot traditional food restaurants in Rúa do Franco (the street that takes to the Cathedral) that are quite expesive.
You also can find workers' restaurants with cheap menus.
I love Creperia in Quintana dos mortos.
Is the nightlife good in Santiago de Compostela? Where is good to go?
Yes, it is. There was a time when It was more lively but It's right.
I recommend to go to the old area of the city because the modern one is just one more place as those you can find wherever in Europe.
You must go to Casa das Crechas, Tarasca and Avante.
Momo is a good place to relax and on Tuesday there is live music.
What advice would you give future students heading to Santiago de Compostela?
You can practise a sport in the USC services that is very cheap!
