Erasmus Experience in Santiago de Compostela, Spain by Lela
Why did you choose to go to Santiago de Compostela, Spain?
For several reasons:
- It was one of the best options for medical school education.
- I always wanted to visit Spain.
- It was my dream to learn Spanish.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
10 months long.
What is the student lifestyle like in Santiago de Compostela?
Studying and partying. But sometimes partying gets boring, because there are not many good clubs with good music.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Santiago de Compostela to other students?
Yes, definitely! It is a beautiful and peaceful city, with very nice people.
University teachers are very friendly and supportive, trying to help exchange students.
Prices are nice in comparison to most European countries.
What is the food like?
I don't like vegetables here. They don't taste natural at all. Fruits are good (besides strawberries, which taste horrible).
Restaurants and cafes are not expensive, and serve good food.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Santiago de Compostela?
No, it did not cost me any additional money. There are "Inmobiliarias" that you can address and they will help you to find an apartment based on your desire.
How much does it cost to live in Santiago de Compostela?
My stipend is enough to live here and travel to other places from time to time.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available in the University?
There are good language courses available throughout the year.
Spanish is not very hard to learn if the student speaks English, but I am still struggling with Spanish grammar.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Santiago de Compostela from your city?
If you mean from my home country - definitely flight!
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Plaza de Obradoiro, Cathedral, etc. There are so many cultural and historical places to visit!
