Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a manageable town. Everything is close. Best of all, there is good transportation and the climate is perfect with an average 20ºC all along the year.

What is the student lifestyle like in Santa Cruz de Tenerife?

There is quite an amount of students. They concentrate in la Laguna which is about 6 km far from Santa Cruz (Capital of the island) As any student town, La Laguna has a lot of pubs, music and entertainment along the week.

How much does it cost to live in Santa Cruz de Tenerife?

It is not really expensive considering European standards. The average amount per month is 500 €

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Santa Cruz de Tenerife? Is there any advice you can give?

Well, it is not very easy, You need to plan in advance and check. Residence Hall overpopulated and flatshare is possible but not of all them have good maintenance. Try this website for further information.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Canarian food is really tasty and there is a great variety, from fish to meat. I recommend potatoes with special Canarian spicy sauce, called "Mojo picón" (spicy sauce) They also make good "Potaje" (stew) with fresh vegetables as main ingredients.

What places would you recommend visiting in Santa Cruz de Tenerife?

Most people come here looking for sun. If this is the aim, try the south of the island. But the north has special secret places, nice black sandy beaches, hidden paradises that only locals can show. I recommend Playa de los Patos, el Ancón, Punta de Teno

Is it good to eat out in Santa Cruz de Tenerife? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Eating out is a "sport" in Tenerife. It's a tradition among families to go out, especially on Sundays after mass. They say "there are more restaurants than inhabitants" and I don't doubt it. There are such an amount of places that you can have breakfast, lunch or dinner at any time of the day or night.

Is the nightlife good in Santa Cruz de Tenerife? Where is good to go?

Nightlife is great at night, like in most Spanish towns. I suggest "el cuadrilátero" in La Laguna. It is the place where all students meet, hang out and have fun.

What advice would you give future students heading to Santa Cruz de Tenerife?

Enjoy the island and their people. They are really friendly, especially when you move to small villages. But, don't forget there is a lot of nature to discover: water sports, forest to wander about, beaches to swim...
