San Diego: An amazing city!

Are you thinking about studying in San Diego? I tell you something: It is the right choice!!! With every day I’m living here, it is getting harder to think about leaving this amazing city!

At first, I was very worried about studying business in a foreign language, and although I have studied English in Germany, I had sometimes problems to understand my host family. But living in a host family is so much fun and you learn the language and the culture much better than when you live with other international students.

San Diego is an amazing city. You can do so much stuff and there is so much to see! I love the ocean and the cleanest and most beautiful beach is on Coronado Island where also the famous Hotel Del Coronado is located. Pacific Beach, which is in the North of San Diego, is not the nicest neighborhood, but this is the place where you meet most students. A little bit further in the North is La Jolla. You have to see the wild seals at the “Children’s Pool”! I could watch them the whole day, especially in spring, when they have babies. La Jolla Shores is probably the most popular for surfing. Try it! It is not as difficult as it seems! And it is so much fun!

San Diego is a laid-back city. People are usually too late and relaxed. It is also good to know some Spanish as there are many Mexicans. The boarder is only half an hour away. I went with some friends for a weekend to Ensenada which was a two hours drive. I recommend girls not to go alone and not to go out at night. There is not much for sight-seeing but it is an experience. The people are very friendly and open and the food is soooo good! J

My host family has a horse ranch in El Cajon. So I can go riding whenever I want. And on hot days we are go swimming in the neighbor’s swimming pool. As mentioned before, a host family is the best choice to get to know the American culture. Furthermore, as an F1 student you are not allowed to work for money. Nevertheless, you can have internships and if you have enough time, I highly recommend doing that. It is a very valuable experience and looks good on your résumé.

My college is much easier and less work than my school in Germany. The exams are often multiple choice and often the emphasis is more on memorizing than on understanding concepts.

I can only repeat what I said in the beginning: San Diego is an amazing city, not only because of the sunny weather (although that’s one reason ;) ) but there’s so much more to discover!
