America's Finest City
When I first visited San Diego in 2008, I fell in love with this city right away. A few months later I found out that my university in Germany offers a Bachelor’s program at a cooperating university in San Diego and from then on I knew where I would go for my Bachelor’s degree – San Diego!
It is difficult to describe what makes this city so special; you simply have to experience it. What I love most about San Diego is the mixture of big city and laid-back beach atmosphere.
San Diego has a lot to offer and is a great destination for all ages. You can go shopping in downtown, relax in Gaslamp Quarter, the historic part of the city or simply walk along the beautiful harbor with its great shops and cafés. San Diego has beautiful beaches, which are perfect to learn surfing, go jet skiing, kayaking or to just enjoy the sun.
Since San Diego is located right at the border to Mexico, it is the perfect location to make a trip to Mexico. After driving only a few miles you’re in a totally different world, but I can tell from experience that Mexicans are a very welcoming nation – and the food is amazing!
If you don’t want to cross the border you can have the Mexican atmosphere at Old Town instead, a great old part of the city with many Mexican shops, restaurants and live music.
Another reason why San Diego is amazing is the diversity in landscape. San Diego offers a beautiful coast but just a few miles east you can enjoy the mountainous landscape and lakes.
Being a student in San Diego is an unforgettable experience. There are many clubs to go to. Downtown you find the more luxurious clubs; if you’re looking for a more relaxed atmosphere, you can find many clubs and bars in Pacific Beach.
I chose to live with other international students, which was a great experience. It is great to have people around you with whom you can share your experiences.
All I can say is that you have to experience San Diego for yourself to completely understand what makes it so unbelievably amazing. Neither will I forget my stay in San Diego nor the people I met. There is a reason why it’s called America’s Finest City!
