Salamanca the University City!

Salamanca is a Spanish city located in the autonomous community of Castilla y León. I only really stayed there for two days, but in these two days I was awestruck with the beauty of this city.

It's beauty is quite particular!

It is a city consisting of many monuments of a particular style that differs in all sense from other Spanish cities and even from the rest of the world! This city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. Surely tourism is one of the main income sources of the city, in fact, from what I could see there were quite a bit of tourists!

This city, however, can be defined as a student city, and is located in one of the best regions to learn a clean Spanish, one devoid of strong dialects. The main university in the city is actually one of the oldest in Spain, and it was founded around the XIII century, characterized primarily by a beautiful and very antique facade!

This facade is constituted of an agglomeration of buildings, which in the past seems to have composed the University of Salamanca, and among these buildings, today you'll find the Museum of the University, which features a fresco entitled: "The Sky of Salamanca" which presents various designs of particular figures. All of these buildings are located around the Patio de Escuelas.

Regarding the main monuments, the city features two cathedrals, one big and one small. The smaller cathedral is older, and is designed in a more romantic style, whereas the larger cathedral is newer and designed in gothic style.

The most important square is the Plaza Mayor, which is known as the "parlour of Salamanca, " and is designed in a Baroque style. Surrounding the plaza there are many entrances supported by columns, each of which is decorated with illustrations of famous figures in Spanish history on its base.

Among the remaining buildings, it's worth it to visit the Casa de las Conchas, in Gothic style, whose facade is decorated with a plethora of seashells of scallops, which seem to belong to the order of Santiago. It's actually today a public library.

One of the main symbols of this city is actually a frog, one that can be found on a decorated wall of the university. It is said that if one succeeds in spotting this frog without any assistance, then this person will be granted good luck or will be married within a year or will return to Salamanca, or even (something very important for students) they'll pass all their exams.

Regarding the climate, I would not recommend going in Winter, when I was there, because it was way too cold, especially for people like me, from the Sputh, and used to a more moderate climate!

Apart from that, the city is beautiful, you should visit it!
