Experience in Salamanca, Spain. By Renato

How is living in Salamanca? Would you recommend it? How is the city?

It's a good sized city, it's not too big or too small. If you want to have an international experience where you meet everyone in the city you should come here. If you want the hustle and bustle of a big city, Salamanca isn't for you.

How is the student environment in Salamanca?

It's very... strong. I can say that I came to Salamanca completely on my own, without knowing anyone and after a little time I had lots of friends. You just have to leave the house.

On average, how much did you spend living in Salamanca?

For house rents it depends on the place. You can find somewhere for around 150- 300 euros per month. And since you can get everywhere by walking, if you choose an apartment in the city centre, you will not have to walk that much. For food and parties I would spend around 200 euros per month. With 400 to 500 euros per month you'll be able to survive.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Salamanca? Do you have any advice you can give?

It's not difficult to find a house in Salamanca. There are lots of student apartments to rent. The further from the centre, the bigger the house is going to be.

How is the food? What are your favourite delicacies>

Basically it's tapas. I would recommend eating in Calle Van Dyck, in Montaditos and in a Mexican restaurant in the arches under the Plaza Mayor. You're going to need 6 to 8 euros to eat out. Try as much tapas as possible.

I've already said where to eat, but in general the quality is very good, since it's a tourist area.

How is the night life in Salamanca? Where are the best places?

The night-life centres around 2 areas, which go from the Plaza Mayor, one in the direction of Gran Via and the other in the direction of the Palacio de Monterrey. The best places, in terms of liveliness, are Camelot and the surrounding area. I would also recommend Paniagua, which is the best bar in the world, in my opinion!
