Salamanca is the best university city in Spain. Practically everyone is a university student, on top of the many international students that live here.
How much does living in Salamanca cost?
Life in Salamanca is very cheap. With less than 600€ a month you can pay for your flat as well as day to day life.
Was it difficult finding a flat in Salamanca? Can you give any advice?
No, there are lots of houses for students in Salamanca, but the best thing to do is to register with an estate agency who can help you.
Always choose to live close to the centre, think of "Plaza Mayor" as the centre of the city, everything is very close and it'll only take you around 20 minutes to walk to campus.
How is the country's food? What are your favourite dishes?
The food is incredible. Everything is good. The best dishes are tortilla de patata and the tapas.
What sights do you recommend to visit in Salamanca?
Plaza Mayor, the Cathedral and Anaya, the 'Casa de las Conchas', the University Pontificia (La Ponti). All the typical places. And if you find someone who can tell you where it is, the Garden of Calixto and Melibea, the most magical place in Salamanca.
And to eat in Salamanca? Can you tell us your favourite places?
The Comida y Vida restaurant, which is in the square of Santa Eulalia. And the Delicatessen next to the Ponti, with its beautiful indoor garden.
What places would you recommend for going out to party in Salamanca?
The whole city. If Salamanca is characterised by something, it's its night life. Wherever you go, there are always people, especially on Thursdays. Also, girls almost always end up drinking for free. It's also incredibly cheap to go out, you don't have to pay entry for any clubs.
Any advice you'd like to give to future Salamanca students?
Enjoy this city because you can live 100% like a university student and its the best university city in the world. Out of curiosity, if you enjoy fancy dress then you're in luck as here, all of the faculty parties are celebrated by fancy dress.
