Erasmus Experience in Salamanca, Spain by Marah
Why did you choose to go to Salamanca, Spain?
Before coming here I heard that Salamanca is the best place for a student, as it is a university city. The majority here are students and I felt like it could be a great experience.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
My scholarship is for three months and I receive 1000€ a month which is amazing to cover the bills and also live comfortably.
What is the student lifestyle like in Salamanca?
It's amazing. There are always new things to do as a student in Salamanca. Trips, parties and even if you decide you want a calm atmosphere to study, you can always find it in Salamanca.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Salamanca to other students?
Definitely.
What is the food like?
Food is great. You can find any type of food you'd like to eat. There are great places for Spanish tapas as well as international food like Asian, Greek and Arabic.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Salamanca?
No, I found an apartment close to the campus in just two days after my arrival. Because Salamanca is a city full of students, it's very easy to find student apartments in any part you prefer to live in.
How much does it cost to live in Salamanca?
It depends on the lifestyle you wish to pursue. For a student, Salamanca is great because there are always offers. In general I think living here is not expensive.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
I had problems with the language because with my university classes timetable and the course timetable it was difficult to do both things. I think language courses tend to be expensive in Salamanca, so it's better if you actually speak some Spanish before coming to Salamanca.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Salamanca from your city?
Aeroplane.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Salamanca?
Salamanca is known for its nightlife. There are lots of bars and clubs with different genres of music.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Salamanca?
Again, it depends on what type of food you prefer. If tapas I suggest Cuatro Gatos in the center of Salamanca. It's cheap and delicious.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Aside from the historic buildings such as the cathedral and the old university, there are also theatres and exhibitions.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Salamanca in the future?
Just to have fun as much as they can and to travel a lot around Spain.
